Mayor John Tory's Toronto

During debate on LAB in Toronto today, Perks asked why basically have the LAB instead of OMB, He asked how many times OMB overturned decisions by CoA if both OMA and LAB are independent bodies and why have LAB since it costs Toronto nothing for the OMB.

He asked how many times does CoA turn down and them OMB overrules
60% that CoA refuses and OMB overturns 37%

He was not the only one that stood up. i do not understand this. You always hear councillors always say or try to pretend they are against OMB when it seems obviously they are for it because they can then wash their hands of it.
I really cannot believe the debate regarding this.

At least Fletcher said the issue is that a person comes in to Toronto to hear a case from OMB and they are not local. She went on to say there is no guarantee a person from Toronto will be sitting at the OMB meeting making decisions on local issues and this is all true and why we need LAB

Even Councillior Di Giorgio who is my councillor makes it seems no difference between lAB or OMB where as in person says communities need to work with developers because they can appeal to OMB

Why the delay?
Today Tory said "respect". The flowers on his desk haven't wilted yet. Next Council meeting in a month Ward 2 will be debated, by election or appointment, and voted on by Council.

Coun. Ainslie's motion to track homeless deaths passes 36-1. There will always be one.

Is Jimmy K the new Ford on council?

Yes, I agreed with what Tory said to the press.

So, Tory doesn't meet with Black Lives Matter and everyone is on his case. Wynne does it and everyone is on her case. You just can't please everyone...

I'd want nothing to do with them if I was a politician, given it's co-founder's praise to Allah for strength not to murder white people, only three months after Islamists (a legitimate term BTW, http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...y-want-one-thing.-We-cannot-appease-them.html) murdered 130 people in Paris, and over 160 Canadian soldiers (to date) have been killed in the war against Islamofascism in Afghanistan, at home and elsewhere.

At worst it's bad optics.

You're conflating a lot of things in order to come up with 'don't associate with Black Lives Matter Toronto because we have soldiers in harm's way in Afghanistan'. I'm not quite clear why giving this group a sympathetic ear would be 'bad optics', either. It would diffuse the situation, it got them to dismantle the tent city, and it would have (at minimum) some of the more articulate and combative of the city's columnists on your side for once.

its bad optics because of that tweet and what she said. Can you imagine if that was said against gays or the jewish people? For sure Wynne would distance herself from the group (even if she were not gay) and for sure John Tory would come down harder on the group. Even other group is off limits except the whites

oh my, this tweet - which was more or less an inappropriate equivalent of "god grant me the patience not to tell the idiots I have to deal with today not to f off" really has been spun way out of proportion - on both sides. Agar trolled the twitter accounts to find it.

you think its been spun out of proportion cause its against a non minority group. I can't wait until the next time some group or someone says something against a "minority" group. It should be no big deal

I love it when Col. Flagg & Co. get acrimonious over someone doing their job. Their fear of Tory showing up the Fords’ half assed political/Deco junkets is most delightful.

Black Lives Matter, Tory wanted to talk, they wanted to be children, and now one of their own has allegedly, with help, padded her severance package at the York U. Student Union. http://www.torontosun.com/2016/04/07/black-lives-matter-member-sued-for-severance-deal

The TTC? Tory doesn’t run the TTC but did promote fixes of what the Fords did to it in support of their “War On Cars” special interest group. Ooops.

Fixing Potholes? ‘Nuff said.

John Tory off to China and Japan
Mayor John Tory says he doesn’t like to travel.

But he’ll have to get used to living out of a suitcase for the next two weeks as he jets to San Francisco, China and Japan on city business. It will be Tory’s longest trip since being elected but he stresses that it’s essential to sell the city to investors and attract jobs.
