Hyatt on King West (Holiday Inn remake) COMPLETE

As I said over on SSC, from streetlevel this whole setup looks amazing. Has a great street presence, and in person it looks almost like the hotel is "behind" the score studios. That blue border helps give that impression.

It will indeed be a nice corner once all the screens get going and they finish it off.

I've often made the point that although this hotel is regularly trashed for its ugliness, it's one of the best in the city to actually walk by as a pedestrian, and has the most street presence. It that important regard, it compares well with almost any post-WWII hotel in Toronto.

One of the best if you compare it to Westin Harbour Castle, maybe.

The only thing nice about walking by the Holiday Inn is the strip on the opposite side of the street. The hotel has brutal white panels, dead or dying retail straight out of the early 90s that never fit the street in the first place, and I don't know how they manage to make fresh laundry smell bad, but there's usually an overwhelming stench, especially on the Widmer side.

I like the hotel on the inside, but I can think of plenty of hotel exteriors that are much nicer to walk. Off the top of my head, Intercontinental has large glamourous window walls that allow you to see the grand lobby interior, Soho Met has 2-storey loft retail on Blue Jay's Way.

I just don't see what makes it any better than the Delta Chelsea or Mariott. Actually, even the Delta is better because it's recessed from the street. The Yonge side is cool because it has an alley way leading up to the entrance.

So that leaves no Holiday Inn downtown...they'll have to find another property to rebrand instead. I think 1BE is available.

So long to the long standing much despised Holiday Inn on King ... in the future Torontoian shall bash the "Hyatt Regency"

I love how most hotels these days brag about putting plasma or lcd tv's into suites, yet they forget about adding an HD signal so most of the time the picture is worse than before.

No hope for a refacing, or reclading?

Or just some cleaning?

I don't think its impossible however, I've never heard of a tenant recladding especially when they are to only occupy a part of it
