    Mississauga (non-mall) Retail

Sitting in front of Costco now. Its a typical Costco and very busy given they don't really promote "grand opening" specials.

    Square One Shopping Centre

According to Chipotle it slows down their flow of customers. They shoot for very fast ticket times (order to payment) in order to maximize sales, they have never taken debit. Maybe now that there is flash, etc I see it probably coming though

    Restaurant Comings & Goings

Five Guys now open at 329 Yonge (part of the HMV). Burger greatness now available in the core...

    Sears Canada (1952-2017)

I am pretty sure that Yorkdale would carve up the Sears (as they did with Eatons to add Zara, H&M, etc a few years ago) before they let Target in (that is if Nordstrom doesn't take it). On another note, I don't agree that malls will disappear by 2020. Malls, if anything will be around for a...

    Toronto Humbertown Redevelopment | ?m | 21s | First Capital | Kirkor Architects

I live in this area (see username) and I am involved in the Real Estate industry, so I love bringing the Humbertown subject up with neighbours and friends whenever I can. Without a doubt...the first thing they all say is that they love Humbertown the way it is because its easy to park there, run...

Lease rates for Downtown Food Courts

They vary by mall and location. I would ball park the low side being $100.00psf (for crap) up to $600 for AAA. Concepts are finely honed in the high rent areas to operate in an environment where rent can account for as much as 20% of sales. If you are thinking of a new start up you can probably...

    Restaurant Comings & Goings

Its the southerly end of the HMV (what used to be HMV video game section). Hopefully they open more Five Guys downtown...

    Nordstrom

Sherway is a way better fit for Nordstroms. Square 1 attracts a much younger clientele, whereas Sherway tends to be more mature. There are way more aspirational brands at Sherway and it has always been a point of entry for US chains (Apple, Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, etc). Also, I am...

    Target

Target is going to rock in Canada. As much as they compete with Walmart, they don't. They are very happy in their niche and like the airplane-dude said sometimes its not all about price. Target has made it cool to discount shop and while people (of all income brackets) shop for Tide and...

    Bloor-Yorkville Scene

Nespresso coffee is vastly superior to Keurig, etc. The idea is that you order the pods online. They ship basically overnight from somewhere in Brampton. Its sort of weird given their machines are available all over the place. I have never found it overly inconvenient, and they don't seem to...

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

That is a horrible location for ETON. Are you sure it wasn't the COOP running a big ETON display? I know they sell them at their new location just south of Belly Buster Subs.

    Department Stores then and now

Outside the GTA...Stone Road Mall Zellers (I think it was Towers before) became Home Outfitter and Moxies

    Mississauga (non-mall) Retail

    I believe it's Value Village.

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

This is actually the 4th in the GTA. The others are at Bathurst and Centre and Hillcrest Mall. There are also planned openings this year in Mississauga and Etobicoke.

    Square One Shopping Centre

I was at Square 1 the other day. The new turning circle is going to cause some nice accidents this Christmas season. Is it me or do the pedestrian crossings seem to be in the wrong spot? It seems when you drive the circle ypur eyes aren't looking at where the pedestrians enter the street

    Bloor-Yorkville Scene

I heard its permanent. Its a great brand. Between North Face and Victorinox Bloor St is taking on a different level of luxe product. Its good to see.

    Apple Store

The best is when you are at the Apple at TEC or Yorkdale and it has the humid feeling of a nightclub. I am sure they are breaking MANY occupancy load violations. I always marvel how they are consistently busy even when the rest of the mall is dead.

Islington Village / Six Points (Etobicoke)

I drive it everyday, and despite being confusing traffic is NEVER congested or backed up. Sure its not pedestrian friendly, but where would pedestrians actually need to walk to (other than the TTC stop which in my opinion is a stretch). There isn't any shopping to draw people towards the police...

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

Where did you hear that BLVD was becoming a bank? The guy in there told me a month or so ago they were reformatting the concept. I guess the end was near anyhow with CB2 across the street

    Mississauga (non-mall) Retail

Don't forget that 20VIC were the ones that pulled the major Yorkdale overhaul together. They received many awards for the reconfiguration of the vacant Eatons into the atrium run. Oxford has been able to land a lot of sexy names lately at Yorkdale and push the sales/sf into the stratosphere but...
