With all the construction happening in Toronto, unless you're a regular reader of UrbanToronto's Forum, you may not be familiar with everything being built under all those cranes that stand tall on the skyline. A number of the city's future tallest buildings are currently under construction, many of them—like The One—are currently only as far as their lowest levels. Here, UrbanToronto rounds up city's current tallest construction sites, ranked by the height of the highest formed floor below their crane.
Designed by Hariri Pontarini and Turner Fleischer for Pinnacle International. PJ Condos has been under construction since 2017, recently reaching a construction height of 94 metres. 63 metres remain until the building tops out at its 48-storey height.
9. Max Condos
Located just southwest of the Dundas and Jarvis intersection, and seen at right above, Max Condo's has reached a construction height of 98 metres. The Graziani + Corazza-designed building is being developed by Tribute Communities. 33 of the tower's 36 storeys have seen their slabs poured.
Cresford Development's Clover on Yonge comes in at 104m. The architectsAlliance-designed building is seeing crews working on the 34th-storey level.
Heading over to Etobicoke, Tridel has topped-off the second tower of it's Islington Terrace development. The crane here sits above the recently formed 35th storey, 114 metres above grade.
Seemingly popping out of nowhere, the two-tower Garrison Point development has been taking shape in the ordinance triangle for only three years. Coming in at 119 metres, the taller of the two Hariri Pontarini-designed Garrison Point buildings has its crane just above the topped-out 35th storey.
Halfway to the top of this list is Yonge and Rich, a 46-storey condo building under construction by GreatGulf. The design is by architectsAlliance and Graziani + Corazza Architects. The building's 42nd level is currently being formed, rising 119 metres above Victoria Street. The building's conjoined volumes will soon see the southern volume break off to begin to rising 4 storeys taller.
Another topped-off tower: Concord Adex's The LakeFront, designed by IBI Group, is seeing its crane sit above the 131 metre tower.
3. 2221 Yonge
Located just south of Yonge and Eglinton, Tower Hill Development's 2221 Yonge is reaching its 46th floor, with construction happening at 142 metres above-grade. The Pei Partnership Architects-designed building will be 58 storeys tall when topped out.
Just west of the Yonge and Wellesley intersection, Lanterra's Wellesley on the Park has topped out at a 194-metre height, with the final pieces of the mechanical penthouse cladding being installed now, the building is heading closer to completion.
Toronto's current highest crane is atop one of its most prominent construction sites: located just south of the Financial District, the Wilkinson Eyre-designed CIBC Square for Hines and Ivanhoé Cambridge has reached roughly 218 metres of its 238 metre height.
