Work is steadily advancing at Line 5 Condos, designed by Arcadis for Reserve Properties and Westdale Properties at 117 Broadway Avenue in Midtown Toronto. The complex, walking distance of Mount Pleasant station on the long-awaited Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown LRT, is made up of 38 and 39-storey towers. While we await exact dates, both should open in 2025.

UrbanToronto last provided an update on Line 5 Condos in February, 2024, when the 38-storey south tower had topped off, and the 39-storey north one was only a few floors shy of the same. Since then, both have achieved their full height, the cranes have come down, and their cladding is nearing completion.

Looking northeast in July, 2024, the south tower's alternating balcony projections can be best seen in its south side; the balcony guards use patterned, etched glass to creating a rhythmic "zipper" effect. The concrete walls of the mechanical penthouses remain to be clad; on the left, the northern tower retains a construction hoist for the moment.

Below, a detailed view of the north tower’s podium highlights its streetwall and streetscape along Broadway Avenue. On the west half, the six-storey podium’s angled massing is defined by a combination of black perforated metal panels and warm-toned longboard siding on the right. On the east side to the left, the balconies’ glass railings ascend to the top of the podium, complemented by painted concrete soffits. Below, composite wood panels frame four townhouse units at grade, with a horizontal band featuring the same warm tone above the residential entrance, visually linking the townhouse entrances to the rest of the podium. Street-level improvements include black cylindrical pedestrian light poles and new landscaping.

Further ground level finishes are seen on the east side, where a forecourt gives access to the residential lobbies. Here, a central water feature is duotone grey interlocking brick. The vehicle entrance for the south tower is visible to the right, framed by the podium’s clean black and brick-clad finishes.

The more hidden west elevations show an interplay of materials and forms. The north tower’s podium features a combination of black aluminum panels on the left and Endicott "ironspot" brickwork on the right, framing inset balconies. Above, projecting balconies ascend the west faces of both towers. At the top of the south structure, black panel cladding now envelops its mechanical penthouse.

Collectively set to house 1,010 residential units, the south tower stands at 106.07m and the north tower at 113.99m.
