This week's Throwback Thursday compares a pair of aerial views of Toronto's East Bayfront area captured almost 14 months apart. Back in August 2018, a southeast-facing view of the neighbourhood was centred on the initial floors rising for the Lighthouse Towers at Daniels Waterfront, a pair of 45 and 35-storey condominium towers on Lower Jarvis Street, just north of Queens Quay East. At the far right of the image, excavated pits could be seen forming for 100 Queens Quay at Sugar Wharf and Sugar Wharf Condominiums Phase 1.
A view from same vantage point this month shows that the Lighthouse Towers are both topped out and largely enclosed in cladding. Just east of the Lighthouse Towers, the early stages of demolition are clearing the slate for the large-scale Lakeside Residences complex set to rise at Lake Shore and Lower Sherbourne. To the west, construction moves along for the Sugar Wharf community, where the 100 Queens Quay office tower is a few levels above grade, and the condominium complex adjacent to it is soon to rise above grade.
We will return next week with another look at the changing face of Toronto.
