Rob Ford's Toronto

Wonder if OCAP could collect a couple of shirtless Joes to come out to protest the number of homeless that die on the street and nobody cares about giving them basic funerals. Apparently the City even only keeps stats on them if they actually die in the shelters.

FB feeds me posts from my *real* friends and family, news via news sites that I trust and a few hundred other subjects that interest me - it's my daily news & information feed, and I spend a good hour in the morning & an hour at night consuming it all. I lost my 13 year old Labrador Retriever suddenly a month ago on Feb. 24th - yes, a dog, and I could *barely* function for the better part of about two weeks let alone concentrate reading or posting on FB. Same as when my father died.
But that's just me.

Same here, FB keeps me up to date with family and friends overseas and Canada and US. Having said that, most of them knew I had lost my dog and their sympathy comforted me. Losing a fur baby is losing a member of the family. When my parents died there was no facebook but I certainly didn't feel like chatting about it on an BBS. When my sister died, I really had other things to worry about. FB was the last place I wanted to be. Everyone re-acts differently to a death in the family or a spouse, but for sure writing a 'drama' on FB about how you fell in love is maybe even a bit too strange for my taste. Besides I don't even think Renate is intelligent enough to even care about politics. Anyone who hides her 'money stash' in the sofa instead of opening up a secret bank account isn't very savy.

many people spend too much of their time on facebook etc. I'm not so sure these accounts are Renata's but if I was buzzed out after my husband died I might be prone to mess around on the internet to kill time and emotions. If the account is hers it pretty much lives up to what we thought of their political views.

Lives up...and beyond.

From this evidence, one thing I'll presently say: there goes the concept of a Renata tell-all.

Regarding Renata and Facebook: I've certainly encountered profiles that looked one way from the outside and entirely different when I became a "friend." That said, I don't know any other 40-something year-old women who have 5000 friends on Facebook . . . or who would even want them.

The 5000 plus friends on FB tells me that she isn't too choosy and probably doesn't have a clue how it works. I bet she okays friend requests without even screening the person. I use FB for my news fix too, and I use it to play games with my friends and relatives. Renata on the other hand uses it to waste time without ever actually learning or doing anything. Up thread someone mentioned relief grief, I think that's what Renata is going through.

She has tons of videos of recipes that she keeps liking. Do you really think she cooks? I have doubts that it's legit.

I have a friend who likes tonnes of recipe videos (3-4 a day) but rarely cooks himself. He posts check-ins near daily at restaurants, and I'm guessing those days he doesn't, it's delivery or frozen slab meals. Liking delicious recipes doesn't mean one actually makes them.

The majority of the viewers of the Food Network just watch—but don't make—the food. The amount of proper recipe testing has dropped in the average cookbook, because people just buy them to look at. It's an issue with a lot of the current food culture. For as many people who are actually learning to cook (Millennials especially), there are more who like to just watch and drool.

Well, this thread is going seriously sideways. In the old days that meant a new drunken outburst was just around the corner. Now, it means time to go outside and enjoy the weekend.

New York City has Gracie Mansion. That's the "official" residence of the Mayor of New York City. See link.

Maybe Ford Nation will ask the city to expropriate Rob Ford's "mansion" to make it the City of Toronto's "official" Mayor's residence.

Odd? It doesn't have that "official" look to it. Maybe not.
