Rob Ford's Toronto

Ah, but I forget: This isn't Greenstone we're talking about, but a respectable hospital, which likely won't put up with such shenanigans. Well then, maybe Slob is merely going through withdrawal symptoms. I don't doubt he's been drinking/injesting/snorting/smoking/injecting whatever he damn well pleased ever since leaving slobhab...and was probably doing so during his stay there, and well before that to boot. Possibly he's just drying out, which wouldn't be a pretty sight in and of itself. And the family can still hint that what he's going through as more dramatic than it really is.

It's very doubtful they'd let someone dry out in a hospital bed, rather than CAMH or another facility with rehab care beds. I honestly do think he's dumb enough to have ignored pain for a long time, only to have it bite him in the ass. Life's like that. We men tend to "tough it out", and seek medical attention far later than we should have. I have no doubt a Ford clan member would do any less. In fact, being the baby of the family, he likely overcompensates dramatically for being picked on as a kid.

Maybe they have already started doing this seeing as he's making a run for Mayor. Here's hoping.......

Perhaps - but there are no organized opposition parties with resources in a municipal election and fewer news organizations are as interested in Doug running for mayor, and prepared to devote resources to investigating him, than would be the case if Doug was seeking to become the leader of a provincial party so as to try to become Premier.

That is quite the impressive C.V. Over 50 years in the law.

Yes. Prof. Dickens was the pioneer in the development of "law and medicine" as a specialized area of study in Canadian law schools.

IMO Doug would not get the chance to try; IMO he would never get past being vetted by the OPC party over his days as a drug dealer. The OPC know that the other parties would devote substantial resources to trying to get even more confirmation of that past than we already have seen from the G&M, and that even more news organizations would be even more interested in pursuing his past if Doug was seeking to position himself to try to become Premier.

Sorry pud, maybe I'm missing something. If Ford states his intention to run for party leadership, how exactly would the party prevent him from doing so?

Another possibility would be for the Fords to help found a far-right Tea Party / Wildrose Party in Ontario, particularly if a Red Tory wins the PCPO leadership.

[Edited for completeness.] Don't kid yourself that the OPC party does not exercise influence over who runs, especially for a leadership bid, and over how those who run are treated. All of the 'party faithful' would be spoken to about what a disaster it would be to go to the OPC party's 'base' with an ex-drug dealer. And it would be made quite clear to Doug that he would get no help or other support from the party if he did try to put the OPC in the embarrassing position of having him seek the leadership. One can get away with being a 'lone wolf' city councilllor as Robbie did (1 out of 42; no parties) but not a 'lone wolf' leader of the OPC party.

I agree the party would much prefer to avoid the taint of the Fords, but all he needs is 100 card-carrying members to back his candidacy. I'm confident he'd be able to dredge that many from among the loyal legion of Ford Nation.

Well, you might be correct. But I would bet that the party would lay out the 'cold hards' to Doug as soon as they caught a whiff of him actually thinking of trying.

Yes, she could gain back some momentum and I bet a solid second place in the polls.

Speaking of debates...

Don Peat @reporterdonpeat
Now D!ONNE Renée is making a statement #TOpoli

Security now here asking D!ONNE Renée to leave the debate #TOpoli

She got "escorted" out of the building...

Yes, we can definitely agree on that! But the Fords don't respond to reason like normal people, so I doubt it would work on Doug.
