Rob Ford's Toronto

I always like the connections to the mafia' angle when things get slow.
That seems to be the true, underlying story of how things are run here in the GTA.
The Fords are probably too stupid to be seriously connected. But Deco might be involved somehow, transporting goods under the guise of shipping labels etc.

More likely the other way round. Given that the family can't walk and chew gum without falling into a vat of crack, it's unlikely that they could have turned their dad's little business into Los Etiquetas Hermanos. The complexity of successfully mixing legitimate and illegal business just doesn't hold water - plus, if they were screwing around then Brazen II would have turned something up by now.

On the other hand, the Ford brothers hanging around mafia types like moths to a flame is highly believable. With their obvious self-worth and self-aggrandization issues, combined with a cash-generating business and political connections, they would be easy pickings for mafia types. If that were the case then a lot of Rob's friends would probably have Italian and Eastern European names...

Corruption more important than bad behaviour.

Amen to that. The wowzers and mrs grundy get all tingly in their naughty bits about the drugs and alcohol, but they're missing the bigger point: criminal associations everywhere. Insofar as City Hall affects my own sense of security, it's not what you're smokin', it's who you're smokin' it with.

Exactly! Lets connect the corruption dots, not just chase Schadenfreude nightmares.

Did anyone actually believe the 'sit down with all media' promise/lie?

Doug Ford says mayor won't talk to Globe and other media organizations "that want to kills us." #topoli. #robford.

The media are some of the biggest enablers of RoFo, after DoFo and DiFo.

Rob Ford may be out of sight, but not out of mind: Hume
Our ongoing fascination with Ford during his absence shows he doesn't need to be mayor to be part of the landscape

...
Ford’s rehab hiatus has given the city time to re-enter the thin atmosphere of its own reality. What we’ve discovered is that the Rob Ford Show carries on regardless whether he’s mayor. And so does Toronto.

He has been “uncoupled” from the position he holds and now, as the most famous Canadian in the world, no longer needs public office to hold public attention.

Quite the opposite; Ford is destined for the permanent mockery that comes with his sort of celebrity status.

The important thing is that we have realized that Ford no longer has to be mayor to be a fixture on the landscape. Torontonians can once again inhabit the real world and not feel they’ve left the city.

With Ford’s support at new lows, his moment is nearly over. If nothing else, however, he showed us that the most diverse city on Earth, Toronto, is a seething pit of anger and division.
...
I like this comment:
Etobicoke ratepayer

What I really hope for is that the media IGNORE this man when he returns. DO NOT descend like a pack of hyenas the moment he steps into view. Deny him what he craves the most, constant attention.

This of course will never happen.

What to expect when Mayor Rob Ford returns: he'll make statement around 3, no questions or answers.

Aim high, Robbie. 3:00 on the day before the holiday (or on the bonus holiday for some). Wouldn't want to get back too early.

"He will make a statement to the people of Toronto," Doug Ford says. #topoli #robford.

June 30 he will address the people of Toronto. There won't be any questions or answers," Doug Ford says.

Well, we know that there are never any answers from RoFo. Even when he does answer.

Just some trivia to add. Warmington's recent P.R. piece cites a "former professional athlete who is at GreeneStone with Ford". Ford's first "interview" from rehab mentioned an ex-N.H.L. player - at that time, Greenestone's website listed one of their clinical staff as having ties to the NHL and/or NHLPA, which IMO sort of gave away Ford's rehab location a few days before the media discovered it. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the Greenestone staff member because he is either now gone or had his biography updated to remove the NHL/NHLPA association. Again, just some Friday morning trivia.

Andrew Galloway, head of the GreeneStone Intervention Team, is a featured ... is a consulting counselor for the National Hockey League Players Association ...
