Rob Ford's Toronto

Since you mentioned escort service, a few days ago I became privy to information regarding that from someone that knows the person who runs said escort service. I've remained tight-lipped about it, though. I assume we'll hear more about it at some point.

is staacked entertainment the company you are referring to?

i've been meaning to ask... what is ford demonstrating at the end of this? i see the drinking from a bottle and driving gestures, but what's the push back and shake thing?

Ford appears to be simulating a car crash after drinking and driving. Rob made these gestures in response to Paul Ainslie mocking his brother when Doug was speaking. Paul Ainslie had his drivers license suspended after being pulled over for drinking and driving. The point of Robs antics was to show-up Ainslie as a hypocrite.

In the reports of St. Patrick's evening, Rob Ford made verbally abusive comments about or to two female city employees (Olivia Gondek and a security guard). Gondek was requested to come to the Bier Market. If Ford was with paid companionship in his office or in other settings where there was expectation that staff would attend as part of their duties, especially female staff, it could be considered evidence of a hostile environment. It's not just titillation or tut-tuting about Ford playing around on his wife. It's about how he managed his office, and how he managed the city. It's about his lies and denials.

Agreed. I understand people's discomfort with the prurience, but I'm also getting this sense that some of the commenters here (male commenters, in particular) think that behaviour that has to do with sex is inherently not a problem, and the only people who might be troubled by any of this are dowdy "middle-aged" Ford Nation wives who are projecting their fears of being left for a "more attractive woman" (because no one minds being cheated on or dumped if the Other Woman is ugly?).

In other words there are a couple different strains of misogyny going here.

CBC's followup

I like how they had to rely on the NBC interview to show Ford's lies, since Mansbridge didn't challenge him on anything in CBC's own interview.

The escort/hooker/prostitute thing is unfortunate and the least of Ford's transgressions, but I think it might be the straw that will break the camel's back with Ford nation.

Ford's supporters are, surprisingly, relatively equally represented among the sexes. I think that many Fordites may be willing to overlook the crack pike because it's so outlandish and unrelatable. How many white, suburban voters in Richview even know what a crack pipe looks like? However, if you spin it as "Rob Ford, the man who hires escorts and emotionally cheats on his wife"...well, being cheated on or being left for a more attractive woman is something that a lot of middle aged Ford Nation women can relate to. Throw that in, and remind women about the pussy comment and him pushing over Pam McConnell (don't even mention who Pam McConnell is, just the image of a white, elderly woman being pushed over by a brute will do), and you can effectively kiss half of Ford Nation goodbye.

It's a bit like nailing Al Capone on tax evasion, but you gotta use the tools you find in your toolbox.

exactly. a neighbour of mine finally said he wasn't going to vote for ford again after all that happened. for whatever reason, it seems to be the final straw for some people.

Ainslie did crack, denied and lied about it for six months too? At some point Ainslie went into a rage and threatened to kill someone? I"ll stop there, but there's no comparison. Two Councillors have been nailed for drinking and driving, shame on the both of them. Ford has created an international freak-show with his addiction(s), childish behaviour, poor discretions, freakish antics and lies. Big difference.

I love how Peepers is on board with everything but is just DYING to let himself buy the Warmington line that Blair is evil and Kelly some sort of Pinochet to Ford's Allende. Although Peeps probably thinks Pinochet's the bomb.

Ok, thought I posted a couple days ago...
1. I've been in Asia the last while on a boat. Only tuned in to current events the day of the "enough to eat presser".
2. I believe RoFo has been told by whatever syndicate that owns him (or owns DoFo) that he had better publicly "go insane" or whatevs to stop the snooping around, as subways(x3) casinos and whatever else he is mindlessly pushing are billions in the mob's pockets, (In My Uniformed Speculative Opinion, which is fictional, of course)
While I'm in wifi range, can someone provide Coles notes of the last 10 or so days?

Demographics of Ford Nation http://www.thestar.com/news/city_ha...bicoke_according_to_ipsos.html?app=noRedirect

"Wright identified the hard-core supporters who will not abandon their mayor.
They are predominantly people with lower-income and lower education levels. Some 44 per cent of respondents who don’t have a high school diploma support Ford, while only 17 per cent of those with university degrees do."

He is far from perfect but Ford was elected mayor by a large majority.

Is there some kind of selective dyslexia with Ford Nationals, where they see 47% as 74%? Where a plurality becomes a "large majority"? Where falling short of the combined votes of the next two candidates is a "landslide"?

I think to be fair, the general conservative voter probably has the same educational background. Conservative politicians have been courting the ignorant side of society since Reagan. Prior to him, they didn't much go after low-income, low-education types.

For the record, I prefer to think of them as ignorant rather than "dumb". Ignorant people are more likely to avoid educating and bettering themselves. There's a particular Ford National I have in mind as an example; smart guy but believes that post-secondary education is a boot camp for NDP values and this is of no worth to him.
