GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Metrolinx has issue a new release yesterday and still confusing. If one reads this correctly, GO is running a train to the Exhibition GO stations when saying transferring at Union to get to it. Does this mean the Lakeshore West train start and stop at Union, with the Lakeshore East train servicing the Exhibition GO stations??

Major Infrastructure Upgrades to Impact Weekend Train Service this Fall.

TORONTO: September 5, 2018 – Metrolinx is committed to getting people moving better, faster and easier. As part of that commitment and to ensure safety, critical bridge upgrades are being done this weekend on the Lakeshore West Line and necessary platform work is being done on the Lakeshore East line. Signal upgrades at Union Station will also affect UP Express service this weekend.

By reducing service on the weekend when there are fewer customers, we will get this work done faster and more efficiently. There will be extra staff on-hand to direct customers where to go and to help them reach their destination safely.

For GO Train customers, there will be hourly service along both Lakeshore lines this weekend (Sept. 8-9) and no train service to/from Mimico GO Station.

Along Lakeshore West, Metrolinx will begin repairing and replacing six century-old bridges between Mimico and Exhibition GO stations.

As a result of this work, Lakeshore West GO trains will not serve stations west of Long Branch GO Station. Customers travelling to and from Exhibition will have to transfer trains at Union Station. Customers who regularly use Mimico GO Station are encouraged to use Long Branch GO or the TTC as an alternative.

Along Lakeshore East, platform work at Guildwood GO Station will result in hourly service between Union Station and Oshawa GO Station. Travel times for both Lakeshore lines are expected to run 10-15 minutes longer.

For UP Express riders, trains will operate every half hour this weekend. Customers should also plan ahead, travel times will be increased by as much as 15 minutes.

^Still saying they will not be servicing stations west of Long Branch! Read literally, that would suggest service this weekend is hourly trains runnng between Long Branch and Union with no stops in between.

Funny enough....their tweets are more explanatory than their press releases:

Gonna be a real mess after the remaining TFC matches this season!

As an aside, they began testing the 15 minute mid-day service yesterday, and apparently things ran surprisingly well. They plan on doing so for the next couple of days to see how it deals with delays.

A quote in this video interview suggests more service is coming "soon". See below.

Yes Lakeshore East trains will be extended by one stop to Exhibition on these days. Lakeshore West will operate on the Campa detour and bypass Exhibition and Mimico

In my effort to always look on the bright side of life.......at least the tunnel through to LV after the matches will be a lot easier to get through ;)

TORONTO: September 7, 2018 – Metrolinx recognizes there are a number of major events happening in Toronto this weekend, including: the Toronto International Film Festival, a Blue Jays home series, Argos vs Ticats at BMO field, and the Outlaw Music Festival at Budweiser Stage.

Here is the critical information our customers need to know, who may be wondering how this weekend’s service reductions will affect their travel:

Most importantly, Lakeshore customers should note there is HOURLY service along both the East and West lines. Also, all Lakeshore train trips are expected to take an additional 10-15 minutes.

In addition, there’s some specific information that some of our Lakeshore West GO train customers need to know this weekend (September 8-9):

IF YOU’RE HEADING EAST AND ARE STOPPING AT EXHIBITION:

·Riders of Lakeshore West, who are heading to Exhibition, will have to stop at Union first and then change trains.

·“Exhibition Only” trains at Union will then take passengers to Exhibition Station.

·Extra staff will be there to help customers safely transfer trains.

·Customers transferring trains should plan for at least an 30 minutes of additional travel

IF YOU’RE AT EXHIBITION AND ARE HEADING WEST:

·Riders at Exhibition heading to Long Brach, Port Credit, Clarkson, Oakville, Bronte, Appleby, Burlington or Aldershot will have to go Union Station first.

·Once at Union, passengers will be able to transfer to a Lakeshore West train

·Lakeshore West trains will then run express to Long Branch – and will then make all stations stops to Aldershot.

·Customers transferring trains should plan for at least an additional 30 minutes of travel

MIMICO STATION CUSTOMERS:

·There will be no train service at Mimico GO Station this weekend.

·Mimico customers are being encouraged to use Long Branch GO Station or take the TTC.

Metrolinx recognizes this weekend’s service reductions will inconvenience some of our customers; however, it’s critical we reduce our service to allow for important bridge upgrades and necessary platform construction along the Lakeshore lines.

By reducing service on the weekend when there are fewer customers, we will get this work done safely, faster and more efficiently.

In addition to work on the Lakeshore lines, signal upgrades at Union Station will also affect UP Express service this weekend.

UP EXPRESS CUSTOMERS:

·UP Express service is being reduced to every half hour.

·Trips from Union Station to Pearson Airport are expected to take 10 to 15 minutes longer.

·Please allow yourself additional travel time getting to and from the airport.

It's pretty ridiculous that work on the Lakeshore East, Lakeshore West and the UP Express corridor is scheduled all at the same time, during what is a pretty busy summer* weekend. You'd think that the Lakeshore East work and/or the Kitchener corridor work could wait one week - especially with TIFF on.

*It's still summer until Sept 21.

Since the LSW work is scheduled for each of the next, what, 9 weekends....it was always going to happen on the same weekend.....so if you wait one week you are into the 2nd weekend of TIFF and instead of the Argos you have TFC at BMO Field and instead of Willie Nelson you have Jason Aldean......there is never a good time for this stuff :(

I don't think there's any work on the UP Express corridor, I think it's just a congestion issue since UP Express has to share tracks with the LSW trains (they're detouring through the Junction).

With all this work going on, I wonder if they are going to attempt concurrent introduction of 15min LSW in addition to 15min LSE (Aldershot thru Oshawa).
