July was yet another busy month on UrbanToronto, as the long-awaited arrival of the Pan Am Games put a spotlight on the new buildings and infrastructure that were built in advance of the international sporting event. July also brought us some notable proposals, and much new construction activity around the region. With August now under way, we return today with a recap of the hottest news stories, Forum threads, and dataBase pages from the month of July.

A skyscraping new proposal for the east side of Yonge Street at Gerrard was the biggest newsmaker in July.  The proposal, which calls for 73 and 62-storey towers joined by a podium as well as a skybridge at the 51st and 52nd floors, saw mostly positive reception from commenters, who praised the design and the incorporation of heritage structures at the base.

Our most popular Forum thread from July was that of the EY Tower, a 40-storey, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and WZMH Architects-designed office tower in Toronto's Financial District. The tower now stands several levels above Adelaide Street West, and is beginning to make an impact on its surroundings.
