Throughout October, UrbanToronto is celebrating 20 YEARS, with stories looking back over the last two decades. Each day we are also checking out our ever-changing street scenes, comparing an older "Then" shot with an up-to-date "Now" shot.
Today's 'Then & Now' takes us down to Old Toronto, looking southeast over the St Lawrence Market towards the lake from atop 80 Front Street West. In 2005, the lake was clearly visible; the tallest building in the image is the 12-storey building at 109 Front Street East (left of the image).
Looking below to the 'Now' image, there has been significant redevelopment along the waterfront, with buildings such as Monde (149m), Daniels Waterfront (156m & 125m), and Market Wharf (110m) now towering over the city. There are also number of smaller newly-constructed buildings as well, including Aqualina, Waterfront Innovation Centre, the golden beauty T3 Bayside, and the under-construction Limberlost Place, part of George Brown's waterfront campus. The view from this vantage point will likely undergo another huge transformation over the next fifteen years with projects such as Lakeside Residences Phase 2, 307 Lake shore East, and the various buildings proposed as part of Quayside destined to create a new waterfront skyline.
