Yesterday, we published a roundup of all the projects that have finished construction over the last couple months, providing a snapshot of the what the most current developments in the GTA are delivering. Today, we are following up with a summary of all the projects that are just beginning their respective construction journeys.

While the road to completion is always a long one, looking at these projects now allows us to peer into the future of this city and follow where the trends in design and development are headed. Here is everything you need to know about the newest group of construction projects getting started in the GTA. The Towers:

Grand Central Mimico: The Buckingham | 37, 26, 12 Storeys

Vandyk Properties' has taken the first step towards delivering its proposed 9-tower master-planned community, Grand Central Mimico, getting construction of the first phase underway late last year. Dubbed The Buckingham, the first phase of development will see 749 new condo units introduced in through a 3-tower design from Kohn Partnership Architects, and SvN Architects + Planners.

Joy Station | 22, 22 Storeys

Joining a string of proposed developments along Markham Road in Toronto's northern niegbourhood of Markham, Joy Station is wasting no time in the early stages of construction, with two cranes deployed in the excavated pit. As shoring continues for the Liberty Development project, the foundations for the future 2-tower development will emerge soon.

Galleria III | 42 Storeys

With a flurry of activity taking place on the site of Almadev's master-planned Galleria On The Park community at Dupont and Dufferin Streets, keeping track of what's what can be a tricky process. To keep things simple, we can confirm that the project's third tower is on the way, as shoring begins for the Hariri Pontarini Architects-designed Galleria III.

Regent Park: Daniels on Parliament | 25, 10 Storeys

Closing out the third phase of development in the city-altering Regent Park revitalization project, The Daniels Corporation's latest project is currently a hole in the ground. That won't last long however, with the forming of the superkül- designed project expected to make headway in 2023.

The Mid-Rises:

Kazmir Condos | 8 Storeys

A new mid-rise will soon begin to rise above The Queensway, just east of Islington Avenue, as construction picks up on the site of Lormel Homes' Kazmir Condos. With a crane now installed, the building's terraced massing, similar to the nieghbouring mid-rise building, will slowly emerge, adding another compact structure to Etobicoke's growing mid-rise typology.

The Rhodes | 8 Storeys

Toronto just can't get enough construction at the corner of Bathurst and Eglinton, with a new project from Blackdoor Development Company getting started just south of the busy intersection. The project looks to make the most of the narrow site, delivering a simple massing that is elevated by details like 2-storey arched windows.

Centurion | 9 Storeys

A strong indication of the growth of Hamilton's development industry is the spread of development beyond the City centre. This project, designed by David Premi Architects Inc. will deliver a total of 73 units to Hamilton's western reaches with a contemporary design that stands out in the rural area.

Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn Vaughan | 7 Storeys

With the early success of development in the Vaughn Metropolitan Centre, hotel brands are looking to get in on the action as well. Working with developers Gupta Group, Hilton's newest hotel is on the way, slated to offer 204 suites as well as at grade retail opportunities.

10 Prince Arthur | 7 Storeys

Yorkville will bear witness to the construction of an interesting project from North Drive Investments Inc that intends to incorporate the existing house currently occupying the site into the final design of the boutique development. The house provides a template for the scale of the streetwall, while a number of stepbacks reveal the full 7-storey volume behind.

The Low-Rises:

U of T: Trinity College Residence | 4 Storeys

The University of Toronto is continuing to adapt with the times, creating new spaces for a growing student base to learn and live. The institution has moved forward with the construction of a new 4-storey residence, designed by Mecanoo Architecten. The building draws formally on the mid-centruy modern style, but employs contemporary materials, namely mass timber, for the building's frame.

1 Kenton | 4 Storeys

In North York, midway between Finch and Steeles avenues on Bathurst Street, a 4-storey residential development has been growing above grade. The project was pictured in December with a concrete core formed up the second storey, while the rest of the framing has yet to get underway.

That concludes our summary of the most recent construction starts across the GTA.
