It's been about two and a half months since our last construction update of AYC Condos, a 27-storey condominium and townhome development on Davenport Road just west of Avenue Road. An initialism of Annex Yorkville Connection, the TACT Architecture-designed project by Metropia and Diamond Corp has been moving at a steady clip in recent weeks, with glazing application now underway.
The tower is continuing its ascent while the structurally complete podium receives its skin. Three rows of window wall glazing interrupted by grey spandrel panels form the architectural expression of the building so far, with glazing now climbing above to the tower portion. Crews are also readying the remaining sections of the podium for the application of limestone masonry units. The ground-floor retail component will be decorated in Eramosa limestone.
AYC Condos adds a third highrise tower to the block. The easternmost lot is occupied by the 20-storey Pears on the Avenue, which was completed in 2014. A 25-storey TCHC apartment building stands in the middle of the block. As part of the development, the TCHC building went through a revitalization that replaced the old brick with a two-toned grey facade.
A former green space next to the apartment building, covering its parking garage, serves as the site of the new tower. The bulk of the property will host three blocks of townhomes to the north and east of the tower.
