Following Metropia and Diamond Corp's clearing of the AYC Condos site in 2018, construction has been moving along for the 27-storey condominium tower and townhomes on Davenport Road just west of Avenue Road. The name AYC is short for Annex Yorkville Connection, signalling that the project is located where the two Toronto neighbourhoods meet.

It's been just over 14 months since we last checked in on construction of the TACT Architecture-designed project, and the tower is now rising steadily. At the time of our last update in late 2018, crews had just wrapped up excavation for the site's underground levels, and rebar had been put in place in advance of the pouring of a foundation raft. A tower crane would appear the following month, kicking off forming of the garage. Forming its levels would continue until Summer, 2019, when concrete reached ground level.

The speed of construction has increased rapidly in the months since this milestone was reached, with the four-storey podium reaching its full height just five months later, in December, 2019. Now, just two months since the podium topped out, the tower has sprouted above it, rising an additional six floors, where crews are currently forming the development's 11th floor.

The development replaces a lawn of an adjacent apartment tower that was planted over its shallow and unnecessarily large parking garage. As part of the block-wide redevelopment, the existing tower underwent a modernization effort that resulted in, most notably, a refreshed exterior with two tones of grey along with new balcony cladding. It can be seen behind the AYC construction in the image above.
