The "Manhattanization" of Midtown Toronto's Yonge and Eglinton area shows no signs of slowing, with several towers currently rising in the neighbourhood. One of these is Whitehaus Condominiums, a Diamond Schmitt Architects and Turner Fleischer Architects-design from Lifetime Developments and Knightstone, now rising at Yonge and Helendale, a short distance north of Eglinton.

We last checked in on the development back in September when the building's ten-storey podium was taking shape. In the months since, the final podium stepback has been surpassed, and work on forming the tower floors above has begun. With the podium levels in place and the tower volume underway, the smaller repetitive floor layouts will allow the tower to rise more quickly, heading towards its final 31-storey, 107.2-metre height above Yonge Street.

The first signs of exterior finishes were spotted in mid-September, when white lightly-sanded precast concrete panels began to appear along the building’s Helendale Avenue frontage. In the weeks since, these finishes have been joined by two differently tinted window wall systems, copper coloured facing Yonge Street, and off white further back along Helendale. The cladding now stretches as high as the 5th floor.

Other finishes yet to materialize include expanses of glazing enclosing retail on the first two levels. This area of the building will contain 5,883 m² of retail space fronting onto Yonge Street, replacing the previous 1.5-storey block of retail and restaurant spaces that occupied the previous building on site.

Once complete, Whitehaus will bring another 404 condominium units to the rapidly growing area.
