York Region Transit: Viva service thread

It really isn't any that different from the branched routes you already find in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, and of course in York Region. Branched routes are basically just multiple routes combined into one, aren't they? There's no reason combining Pink and Purple should be any more difficult. Actually it should be less difficult for Viva considering its POP system and increased reliability of the buses thanks to POP... I mean, that was the whole point of Viva, was it not?

Right, but I think it might be a stretch to consider Pink a simple branch route. It goes on a (roughly) 30 minute round trip off route before joining back on, and it never sees the second half of the Purple route.

Overall though, I still think it's feasible if they do it properly.

The Novas have been in service for a few days now, but I've yet to see the destination sign in action. It always seems to be off, even though the buses are clearly in service, picking up passengers. I wonder what that's about.
As of today the Region has activated INIT and AA on the LFX. They just weren't activated before.

Got a chance to ride on the Nova a couple of days ago. Personally, I didn't get that "cheap" feeling that some mentioned, quite the opposite in fact. The headrests on some of the seats are worthless though unless you are under 5'. Otherwise they dig into your back

I've also seen one running on the Purple line as well.

I'll have some pics and videos soon...

Here are the pics I've got:

Here is a pic of a renovation going on at RHC:

And here is a pic of the GO map at RHC on the new platform. See if you can tell what's wrong with it...

The bus windows so large, I like that. I guess Novabus is okay for Viva because you don't have to use the stupid sensor to open the door. You have the same backpack as me. GO map has A LOT of things wrong with it, you are going to have to be more specific.... I guess you are referring to the fact that RHC is missing? It's already sort indicated by Langstaff.

1089 on Purple this morning (approx. 8:30)

On another note:
Serious concrete cracks have formed at platform 3 at Promenade [#5332 (route 23)] on the base of the NextBus Info. It has sunk in about 2 cm on the north side, most likely due to the freeze-thaw. Just to let you guys know it was leveled and not cracked last week when I was waiting for the 23. I just contracted YRT about it.

It still shows the Yonge GO bus route.

I'm very happy (and surprised) to see that YRT is finally listening to rider complaints regarding RHC's current useless "shelter" design. I had no idea that they were adding an enclosed section. Let's hope this time they do it properly. Even the current enclosed sections have gaping holes along the entire top area and wide open doors on the sides, meaning you get zero protection from any elements, except maybe rain.

There's no point in hoping for something that has already happened. The project is now complete and they seem to have done a fairly good job of it. The current shelter does protect you from the elements and is actually warmer than the outside, unlike the former shelter.

Well, good. But I don't use RHC anymore these days so I had no idea it had even begun, let alone being finished. Glad it's there, though. Took them long enough.

There's finally decent shelter at Viva's 'Yonge/Bloor'? Decent.

BTW, when I asked about the structure during original coverage of Viva's start-up, I recall being told a more sophisticated shelter design would have triggered an EA and thereby delayed opening...
