TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Didn’t know some late PCCs featured the next streetcar’s colour scheme.

4600 and 4601 were part of a batch of PCCs that were completely overhauled in the mid-80s to early 90s. They received the CLRV livery, but it was later decided to use their original livery on the rest of the cars. The two cars were eventually repainted.

A new write up on the Transit Toronto website details a planned Christie subway line that would have replaced the northern section of the Spadina subway extension. That's the first time I've heard about it, and I'm guessing if it were built today's Line 1 would look like a squiggly line a bit like the Union Station logo? What are all your thoughts about it?

The suggestion was that the wye would STILL be used for a 3-line integrated line system, Keele (Kipling) to Woodbine (Kennedy), Keele (Kipling) to Eglinton (Finch), Woodbine (Kennedy) to Eglinton (Finch). The "Christie" subway line would have had a phase one between Wilson (now Vaughan Metropolitan Centre) to Christie, with a phase two "south on Grace Street to join the planned QUEEN subway line at Trinity Bellwoods Park", which would join up with the planned Queen subway, now the currenty planned Downtown Relief Line.

"Three weeks after the initial decision, the TTC Commissioners voted to restore the original Spadina Road alignment, but in so doing, voted to cut funding for the eastern leg of the Bloor-Danforth-University wye (between Museum and Bay stations), suggesting that the SPADINA subway would eventually be linked with the UNIVERSITY line at St. George, rendering the wye useless."

I feel like this would've eventually become a mess. It would've meant that the TTC would have two completely separate subway lines, and it would be impossible for cars to switch from one line to the other (they would have to be put on a trailer and towed instead).

Or wait 200 years to connect the two lines via STC and Sheppard. :p

My reading of that is cutting the funding to the eastern leg would still preserve the western connection between St. George & Spadina, that would provide for equipment movement between the lines.

Considering that this was the early 60s and the only yard they had is Davisville, they couldn't have isolated the two lines or they'll have trouble to capacity for future expansion if they can't get trains from the planned Greenwood yard at the time.

Its a decent report, although the summary is a bit shy of some things I think should be in a spec.

1) Provide a shelter, fully enclosed where possible, with seating that includes back rest, sizing that permits at least one 'scooter' user, and/or 2 wheelchairs.
2)Shelter should always have lighting, next bus arrival info w/real-time info on detours.
3)In winter climates shelters and the adjacent sidewalk for the length of any bus should have a snowmelt system.
4)In harsh winter climates shelters should have push-button heater options that provide heat up to 5m at a time.
5)All stops should feature waste/recycling receptacles and pedestrian-scale lights.
6)All stops should have a physical schedule and route map
7)All stops should have at least one outdoor bench and room for 1 scooter/2 wheel chairs to position without blocking the sidewalk.
8)In warm climates all stops should feature a drinking fountain, a seasonal fountain should be considered at other shelters where demand warrants.
9)Busy stops should feature vending machines for beverages, both warm and cold, they could be inside a larger shelter where weather protection is deemed necessary.

Make the experience of using transit pleasant and attract choice riders.

For 4), it should be in-ground heating (minimum inside the shelter), to heat the "floor" not the sides of the shelter.

That's called a "hotel", usually located at a subway station. See Royal York Hotel for an example, located at Union Station.
It would be great if there were a television set with live news and sports updates and have video game controllers as well.

Excellent way to have buses pass you every time
