TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

It may be because of the sheer volume of cars being built over there. In North America streetcars are still not that popular in terms of transit, in Europe virtually every city has a tram network.

Does anyone know if there are any substantial differences between the Toronto model and the Viennese model that could account for the delay.

Custom accessibility ramp, powered centre bogie, custom track gauge, 11 metre minimum curve radius, dual panto + trolley pole power pickup, built in a factory that had never built them before. You know, little things...

An off the the shelf vehicle would not be able to handle the Coxwell-Queen loop. The curve radius is very tight.

Might have been better to have expropriated land to build a larger Coxwell Loop rather than rebuild the small one, for layover capacity if not curve widening.

Is there any point in enlarging a loop that the 501 does not use? It's only used to turn around cars on Coxwell... which is rare for a streetcar to be on that stretch of track and needing to loop back.

The primary use of the loop is for turning 506 cars, not 501 cars. 501 cars turn back east at Woodbine loop.

Rare? More like several times a day. And even every second car when there are problems on the line (which themselves aren't rare)!

Has anyone seen 4444 and 4445 out for testing??

All I have see so far is the cars being moved to various bays at all hours of the day and late night. Haven't done any real late night being up when they could be out for testing. With 4446 on its way, going to add to the list for burn in along with other that may show up in Oct.

Regardless if 4446 shows up this month or not, BBD ramp up for delivery to TTC is DOA. TTC may see 2 of the plan 4 cars for this month and will be the 3rd month in a row that BBD has fail to delivery as schedule.

This means for BBD to get back on schedule, they need to delivery 9 cars in Oct instead of the plan 7 and don't see that happening at all.

Tuesday could be a bad day for BBD. That is when the US will release its finding on the C Plane as well the merger of Altsom and Siemens rail division along with corruption charges in Sweden. Don't know if the tram division is part of the merger and assume it is.

Even though I never seen 4444 out for testing, it look like it's ready to enter service Tuesday as it's been out in the yard all night and the first time I seen this.

4445 is up on St Clair doing testing at this time.

Noticed 4444 still in the yard this morning and went into the service bay later on, where it currently is. 4445 was in the service bay and currently in the yard.

BBD miss the marriage with Siemens.

We may have to start another thread on this one because there is so much to be said on this matter alone. All i'll say on this one here is that it's the most asinine thing ive ever heard of since globalization started.
Agreed. It's an odd headline IMO. Commerce department isn't giving Bombardier anything. Should be "Commerce Department hits Bombardier With 219% Duty....."
