As we conclude our analysis of 2024, we turn to the conversations that drove the most engagement in the UrbanToronto Forums. These growing threads represent the pulse of the Greater Golden Horeshoe development community, where enthusiasts and some professionals come together to share, discuss, and debate insights.
Last year, transit continued as a dominant theme, from new transit lines under construction to station upgrades and transit-oriented developments, the conversations highlighted how improving transportation will remain central to the GTA's growth. Alongside these, towering new builds, redeveloped spaces, and public realm improvements kept readers engaged.
Let’s dive into the busiest threads of 2024, starting at #24. UrbanToronto visited the Rogers Centre to look at the progress on its renovations, with upgrades to seating, new social spaces, and upgraded player facilities…
…while more typical dense residential developments made these threads ever-longer:
22. Mirvish Village Honest Ed’s Redevelopment
21. Sugar Wharf Condos (Phase 2)
20. 50 Scollard
Discussions on the Sheppard Subway Extension proposals have continued, (including a front page deep dive by Reece Martin). In June, 2024, Metrolinx started a second round of public consultations to gather community input on potentially extending Line 4 both eastward to McCowan Road and westward to Sheppard West station.

17. 160 Front West
Construction is finally wrapping up on the St Lawrence Market North building, a new public multi-use facility, with an initial opening not far off now.
15. 11 YV
14. Concord Sky
Concord Adex's Concord Canada House, at the northeast corner of Spadina Avenue and Bremner Boulevard, is the final phase of the CityPlace community. Its two towers, now topped off at 64 and 74 storeys, feature a distinctive maple leaf motif on their facades, which we should see completed and lit up for the first time later this year.
12. Forma
In September, 2024, the Ontario government announced the completion of all stations and stops for the Finch West LRT. However, an official opening date for the LRT service has yet to be announced:
In Mississauga, construction continues on the Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT, promising to improve transit connectivity between Mississauga and Brampton. The line will span 18km, featuring 19 stops, acting as a vital north-south transit corridor in the western GTA once it opens in the future.

7. KING Toronto
In October 2024, it was announced that construction is now underway across the entire length of Ontario Line 3, with work starting on the Don Valley Crossing Bridge and the West Don Crossing Bridge.
5. CIBC SQUARE
In January, 2024, the Lower Don Lands Redevelopment marked another milestone with the opening of two new roads and the Cherry Street North and Commissioners Street bridges opening to the public captured in a front page story.
4. Lower Don Lands Redevelopment
With no opening date yet established, posts continued to lengthen the thread for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. The line and its stops have been built, but speculation is that the connection at the interchange station with Yonge Line 1 still has deficiencies to be addressed.
3. Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown LRT
Once again, Pinnacle One Yonge and The One top the list, our two current ever-taller projects driving our busiest, ever-longer threads.
