Quite a distance. The tunnel is directly underneath Yonge Street between King and Carlton and only veers easterly at Alexander. Also, the site is not being excavated underneath the glass pavilion at Yonge.

Man, this is one of the few sites where I actually wish we were getting a park instead. It has the potential to be a little oasis amongst the hustle and bustle of Yonge. Something like Greenacre Park in NYC would've been perfect here.

Man, this is one of the few sites where I actually wish we were getting a park instead. It has the potential to be a little oasis amongst the hustle and bustle of Yonge. Something like Greenacre Park in NYC would've been perfect here.

Agreed. In the past, the City aimed to use all or part of this space for cultural uses, possibly open space, as part of the "Theatre Block". Once the City sold 205 Yonge, though, those plans were shelved. Not sure they were ever that practical in the first place. The space between 197 and 205 Yonge would have worked better if 205 Yonge had remained public space. The adjacent buildings all use the space at the rear for vehicular access/loading and Massey needed part of it for backstage uses and loading more than it needed open space. Something might be done to animate Enoch Square lane, but I think even without this tower, that's probably the only thing that would have ever happened.

The existing "park" was nothing more than a garbage, mud, pigeon and rat infested hell-hole, including that of 197.
Kudos to Gary Switzer & Co for, if for nothing more, than cleaning-up that mess.
