Weekly update from my vantage point. Impressed how quickly they're progressing:

I was walking up Simcoe from Queens Quay like I do a few times a week and suddenly the sun hit my eyes in a place where I expected shade. This ground hasn't seen sunlight in decades. Amazing.

I hope that one day we get to see the rest of the Gardiner come down like this.

No way is this parking garage lasting very long after the Simcoe ramp comes down. It'll be bathed in light with a new cyclepath and wide sidewalk in front.

My understanding is that this parking belongs to the condos surrounding it so I'm not sure of the logistics of how that works. Does the developer find an offsite location to park these cars until a new underground garage is built or is it just logistically impossible since the parking spots are owned and not leased?

Then again, I guess everyone has a price.

I think it's actually owned by Harbourfront hence why the elevators have audio in English and French when they work. The condos probably just rent space in them or pay monthly parking fees for it.

If anyone checks the 7th level, they will find a car that is cover in dirt, with an 2009 sticker on its plate. The driver passenger rear window is now smash out from the last time I saw it this year. If someone renting space, very costly to have a car sit there 7/24 for 8 years.

If you going to tear it down and built another tower that will not meet city distance between buildings, going to need at least 10 floor underground parking garage, since most the parking is public and fill mostly to the 7th floor with part of the 8th used.

The new sidewalk and bike path will still be in the shadows like it is today, The garage is right cross the street from Ten Condo under construction as well.

It would be nice to see the garage underground with a park on it.

Lower Simcoe Street will be completely closed between Lake Shore and Queen's Quay this weekend, likely so the old ramp can be demolished without danger to pedestrians or motorists.

The City notice was posted a bit higher up the thread. They expect to close York & Harbour on the Victoria Day weekend. Movin' on.

Did they put cladding on the top part of the garage so it looks good from the Gardiner, but nothing on the bottom? Are they going to beautify the entire garage when the ramp comes down?

There are no plans for altering the garage yet, just speculation.

Meanwhile, yesterday:

What am I looking at here? Are they reusing those extended bents? What are those triangles?
MetroMan beat me as I was typing this

If you mean the pier support as bents, those are the new ones for the ramp. You can see a column support close to York and it will support the top of the last pier.

The bracket as I see it will support a platform for the workers.

It's remarkable how fast the Gardiner can come down. What if we sent John Tory and a bunch of his cohorts off on a 2 week "business trip"?
You mean a 3 month trip to get everything down from Yonge to the Don. It would sure make the area look a lot better, but who going to pay for the removal??

A ramp is easy to take down the rest of gardener isn't as you would also have to close lake shore for the duration of it.
