Well, at least it's clear then that no repeat of Scarborough could happen on the west end.

That's because they're "moving" the Etobicoke Civic Centre from The West Mall & Burnhamthorpe to Kipling & Dundas, next door to the Kipling Subway Station. Now if they "moved" the Scarborough Town Centre...

...might even be cheaper. ;)

At this rate, it is definitely cheaper if you ask me. But that is a topic for another thread.

Well, Line 2 is already almost all the way across Etobicoke, so it won't be a Toronto mayoral candidate harping on how Etobicoke got screwed. But a Mississauga politician might try that line some day.

The subway is just over 4 km into Etobicoke. If you follow Dundas the border is only 2.5km away. However, the border is a creek that meanders (Bloor/Dundas is one of the shortest E-W ways across Etobicoke). Following Bloor or the Queensway the Misssisauga border is 4km away. So ends basically in the E-W middle of Etobicoke.

So I wouldn't say it goes "almost all" the way across.

That'll be when the "brand new and improved" Metropolitan Toronto is formed to include present day Toronto, Peel Region, York Region, and Durham Region... ...by mid-2050.

Quick Facts

  • Three bidders were selected in the Request for Qualifications process that began in November 2016: Bird/Kiewit JV, EllisDon Infrastructure Transit, and Kipling Infrastructure Partnership. A successful bidder is expected to be announced in fall 2017.
  • The scope of work at Kipling includes: an elevated pedestrian bridge; a pedestrian underground tunnel; a new entrance; renovations to the existing Kipling GO station building and existing TTC pedestrian pick-up and drop off building; a new bus terminal building for MiWay and GO Transit; complete site infrastructure including parking upgrades, and improved vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian access; and a new extension of Acorn Ave south of Dundas St. West with vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian access, including traffic signals.
  • GO RER will increase the number of weekly trips across the GO train network from 1,500 today to roughly 6,000 by 2025.

Uh, do they mean trips from Kipling GO station specifically?
That's a good question. Also will GO have run-through buses from Square One to Kipling via the Busway, e.g: 25 and 29 buses from K/W and Guelph? At this time, it is very discontinuous and a disincentive to do it unless taking the MiWay express bus to Islington, which goes as fast as it can, once it arrives, but has a very circuitous route to do it, albeit better when the eastern stretch of the Busway opens.

The other alternative is to take the (forever slow) 21H (?) to Union, and then come back west again on the TTC. The absurdity of doing that doesn't have to be explained.

So today's event was only to announce the RFP for this.

I can't think of any other part of the government where the minister consistently re-announces already-announced things at every little baby step toward progress.

It's called DelDuca'ing. I actually saw the guy walking up Bay St last week and was wondering why he wasn't at a press conference.
