Pre-cast Concrete Installation for Facility Services Building Construction at Eglinton Station
What Work is Taking Place?

Beginning as early as September 8, 2018, crews will install pre-cast concrete for the Facility Services Building for the TTC Line 1 Subway system. Crews will also undertake various activities inside the TTC station.

The future Facility Services Building will house an upgraded ventilation system and will be located on the TTC Line 1 corridor (Yonge-University), south of Berwick Avenue. The new ventilation system will include smoke extraction for emergency situations at Eglinton Station. Fans will be equipped with acoustic dampers to reduce noise, and, outside of emergency situations, will only run for testing purposes.

For details of this phase of work, please refer to the presentation materials from the public meeting held on May 7 on the Crosstown website.

Timing

  • Due to the location of the new building, the work can only be carried out safely while the subway is not in operation. There is a series of weekend subway closures throughout the entire year. Below are the upcoming planned weekend subway closures for fall 2018:
September 8/9 and October 27/28
September 1/2, September 22/23, October 13/14 & October 20/21 (Cancelled)

  • Additional weekend subway closures are anticipated throughout 2018. More details to follow.
  • Construction activities will begin on each Friday before these weekends, and will continue during regular working hours (7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.) and overnight (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.) until the subway re-opens the following Monday morning.

Transit Information

There will be no subway service at TTC Eglinton Station on each of the weekends listed. Access to TTC Eglinton Station Bus Terminal will be maintained, allowing TTC users to access shuttle buses for the duration of the closure. Please visit the TTC website for more details under “Scheduled Subway Closures” on subway closures and shuttle bus operation. Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information.

What to Expect
  • Construction zones and laydown areas will be set up on Berwick Avenue between Duplex Avenue and Yonge Street, and in TTC’s corridor (south of Berwick Avenue).
  • Nearby residents and businesses can expect noise in the area caused by large construction equipment, heavy truck traffic entering and exiting the work zone, and equipment and material storage within designated work zones.
  • Work will occur on a 24 hour schedule on the TTC subway weekend closures listed above.
  • All access to business entrances will be maintained throughout construction.
  • Access to Oxford Loading Dock and TTC Bus Bay will be maintained at all times.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
  • Berwick Avenue will be closed mid-block during the weekend closure beginning on each Friday at approximately 7:00 a.m. and will re-open at approximately 7:00 a.m. Monday. Traffic details may be updated to reflect design changes at a later date and will be communicated separately in advance.
  • TTC bus access into bus terminal and Oxford loading dock will remain open.
  • Some driveways may be impacted during the closure of Berwick Avenue. Property owners with affected driveways have been contacted individually.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained along the north side of Berwick Avenue from Duplex Avenue to Yonge Street. At times, pedestrians may be asked to halt or divert around the crane movements.
Travelling Smart during Construction
Travel delays are expected with the Crosstown construction. Please allow extra time for your journey. Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Crosstown construction. When possible, please travel during the off-peak period between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Deleted comment above - should have included context (cleaning discussion) but wrong thread anyway

no reason to bump a dead thread. Anyways its a crosstown. I dont see why this thread is separated into three different sections other then the fact that because of all the delays the other two options are likely dead.
Because one is funded and under construction. And the other two are very different projects/timeframes.

Similarly we have multiple Union Station threads for different projects.

It's not a dead thread though - there are numerous recent posts.

July 15 there is a feasibility study posted ( which i looked at and really doesn't have much feedback) and August 15th theres a letter from John Campbell saying this is decades away. The rest of the threads are debates. I like debating but Id also like to see concrete evidence from all levels of government that we are moving ahead with Eglinton west and not spending all our money appeasing Scarborough.

A thread with 1 month of inactivity is dead? It was separated to keep discussion focused to their respective section.

I noticed this announcement:

I wonder, why not loop it back down to STC, then across Ellsmere, then straight down Kennedy to Kennedy station? You'll have a closed loop of transit that addresses inter-Scarborough travel, a transfer free connection to the Yonge Line and RT access to the Kennedy/Lawrence SmartTrack station.

why not continue north and then head west on Finch to Yonge? more transit for Scarborough and another crosstown.
