Hmm. One small section of the podium goes without limestone? Or is there more hidden off to the left? There's none around the corner to the right, I've checked back to old photos to determine that. In any case, that seems a bizarre choice to me.

Looking further back for evidence, there is this shot by sMT from May of last year, with "proof" that something different was going to happen here, but still, there's no obvious reason for why it's been done that way. Unless—Earth is OUT of that limestone!! (Cue the dramatic music.)

A spandrel famine on the other hand would be a dream come true.

They still would have had to apply an A/V barrier and insulation on that portion regardless of what it's clad in. Not sure why on Earth they spec'd EIFS there instead of the stone; almost feels like a temporary measure until a replacement panel can be shipped in.

I never took in just how nice the base of the building is. Good scale.

Update:

With occupancy well under way, residents continue to replace construction workers at Cityzen Development Group, Fernbrook Homes, and Castlepoint Numa's Backstage on the Esplanade. Though the 36-storey, Page + Steele / IBI Group Architects-designed condominium tower has looked virtually complete to passersby for some time, there are still a few minor elements on the building's exterior that are now wrapping up as the public realm takes shape.
