No offence to you and your source Swarley, but I find it hard to believe that with all the transit/train geeks armed with cameras in this town hovering over boards like this one, CPTDB, various Yahoo transit groups and others, that not one has snapped a picture of this trainset, either in Greenwood yard or undergoing testing on the BD line. Presumably they'd be doing testing during revenue service hours as I find it hard to believe that they would have the time to do it when the tunnels are being serviced, and thus you would think that someone would spot this thing, say, "wow, cool, new trains", and then snap away on their cell phone camera and post it somewhere where railfans gather. Hell, even TTC supervisors and operators and mechanics have been known to post pics of stuff they shouldn't onto some of the boards, but I haven't seen any unless the crews testing these trains are being escorted by Special Constables or something.

The fact remains that we haven't seen any pics so far, have we? Either that's a hell of a coinicdence or there's something else going on. So the fact that not a single photo of this train has emerged makes me *very* skeptical that this train is in the city right now. I also would think that the TTC would actually advertise its presence, as it could use some good PR.

It's possible. Before they can start power testing the train the need to first conduct unpowered roll tests, where the train gets hooked to a locomotive and is dragged along the tracks to see how it perform. As these tests are usually done during off hours, it is possible that the testing actually took place overnight.

all new trains are going to the BD line. YUS line will still be using their relatively new T1s.

You have a source for that? Everything I've ever seen says YUS, since it has the highest peak loads. They've made allowances in the new cars for ATC, which would make no sense since the BD line isn't getting that for at least 10 years.

The new trainsets will NOT be going to the Bloor-Danforth. The plan is, and always has been, for the new trains to be on the YUS (where they're needed), and the T1s would move to the BD to replace the H-series.

that's weird. Because the trains that are being replaced are the ones that are currently running on the BD line.

So the BD line is getting hand-downs again?

That's how it should be, since Yonge has higher peak loads than Bloor, it needs the capacity. I'm on the Bloor line, and I don't disagree..

Absolutely untrue. The new trains are going exclusively to YUS because the gangways between cars will increase capacity by ~9% (from memory, may be off by a point or two) and decrease overcrowding...hopefully.

i spoke to a friend of mine yesterday who is a subway operator and according to him the first train is still scheduled to arrive in september. the new trains will be going to wilson yards and as drum118 has pointed out already, the facilities for the new trains are under construction.

sorry about the size of the photo, but you can see it being built on the right hand side.

So...................

The BD line doesn't the new trains for how many years then? Are we talking about a decade or more out before they start showing up here?

Probably until it's time to retire the T1s...So we're looking at another couple of decades, I would think.

Here is a video of the new carhouse shot Aug 30.

As the new Rockets are place in service on the YUS line, T1's will be move to BD to replace the H's

There has been talk that some of the new Rockets will move to the BD when it comes time to replace them and this depends on what happen for the 7th car.

As the T1 retire, either the new Rockets move to the BD or a new type will be built for it. It would be easier and cheaper for TTC to move the Rocket and design a true equal length cars for a 7 car unit train for the YUS like should from day one.
