Friday Scaffolding

Southside cladding additions

Eastside facing Bay Street, new scaffolding is being added, causing the sidewalk to be blocked along Bay Street. It has made this area very dangerous for pedestrians as there are no exits except two pinch points at the north and south ends of the covered walkway. If there was a problem that required an emergency evacuation of the arena may people would be seriously hurt if not trampled to death. The same situation exists along the south side of the arena where a plywood tunnel has been created under the scaffolding. It's a danger to anyone at night trying to access this area, as there only two exits. There are several alcoves enclosed within the tunnel where someone with intentions to do harm could cause easily trap someone. There should at the very least some security cameras.

Man....imagine if they made that entire upper area a screen wrapping around the building. That would be incredible.

I can imagine there's some limitations based on its proximity next to the Gardiner. Reminds me of when they first lit up the Allianz Arena in Munich they would play some pretty trippy light patterns but after that caused too many accidents they had to limit the changes in colours to every few seconds.

Not that non-residents care , but even the newly-installed LED signage is emitting tons of light pollution into residences when Scotiabank Arena fails to calibrate it to the City's rules around allowable nits after sunset. They've been in violation of these rules several times since the signage was installed, but have slowly been getting better.

Air Canada's signage was classy and not disruptive. Scotiabank seems to be trying to push the rules as far as they can without regard to its neighbours. A wraparound LED would be total anarchy as far as light pollution goes for residents within 500m (or the poor office workers working after sunset at Telus or CIBC Square.)
