If it's the latter, they better get on that pretty damn quickly. One would have to think it is because they didn't get anything related to the extortion charge.

Enter OPP Det. Insp. Chris Nicholas, also a veteran detective. Nicholas, according to two sources who were not authorized to speak publicly about the case, believed that Ford was the victim. His theory was that once the video was made, Siad may have attempted to extort money from Ford in return for handing over the video.

I find this baffling. It's not either/or. Both can be true. One doesn't negate the other.

I think what really happened is this: OPP would only sign off on this case if they felt sure it was going to stick. Otherwise it would reflect badly on them. They have no investment in the case at all -- TPS gets all the credit if it goes well. So they have absolutely no incentive to take any chances. They spotted potential weaknesses and pushed back. TPS then went to the press, at which point OPP said, OK, FU, you want to play it like that we can do the same. They get a friendly Crown attorney to go over the evidence with them and say it's not strong enough. And here we are.

Yeah it amazes me that there was a "known crack house" in Etobicoke which was allowed to remain operating, and yet no investigation to find out why the local police did nothing to shut it down.

This is interesting. Sounds like maybe the TPS aren't giving them everything they've got, and maybe this whole thing is because the OPP are getting pissy about it? Starting to sound like this is less about Ford and more about a war of wills between departments.

And if TPS isn't sharing everything with the OPP is there a good reason? Like they don't trust them with it?

Watching CP24, and it's a little infuriating that they start all their segments with the breaking "news" that it appears unlikely Ford will ever be charged, and then immediately follow that up with an interview with someone who says that that isn't the case at all. The reason for Giroux's bafflement is probably that the cop he was talking to was just doing what his bosses told him -- unless this is 100% watertight, throw it back to them any way you can.

But the investigation was on-going! This scenario only makes sense if the TPS went to them asking them to sign off on an arrest. Maybe that happened (MM seemed to think it did), but Giroux seems to think it was just business as usual. He says he hasn't even interracted with OPP, and why would he? Remember this?

A source close to the ongoing probe said that Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux will remain as the lead investigator, and his team of a half dozen officers will remain intact. Both Giroux and Det. Joyce Schertzer were in court on a Brazen 2 matter on Wednesday and were marking their calendars for March 19, the day set as a potential public release time for more information on the case. The detectives said it was business as usual on Brazen 2, but noted they have other cases on the go as well.

The OPP oversight investigator seems to have questioned the entire basis of the investigation. I'm also baffled at this idea the OPP has "walked away," when they also said this:

“If anything new does come forward, and we’re requested, then we’ll look at it.”

Which Giroux would probably say. "Uh, yeah. That's how this works." There is so much journalist bullshittery and obfuscation about today. It's infuriating.

My point is that I thought that the credo of journalism is to ask "who, what, where, when, why and how". Why (apparently) has none of the journalists asked the TPS and the OPP why the OPP says that is has received no info on the Lisi phone data?

Just a theory, but do you think they are trying to give the Fords a false sense of security? If they know they are about to be arrested, who knows what they would do.

I just tweeted MetroMan to get his take on this angle. While it is always fun to dish out the info from the inside, I cannot see it helping the investigation.
