Rob Ford's Toronto

Status
Not open for further replies.
They apparently have been planning on closing this down since June.

This stuff is in your wheelhouse, isn't Jimmi? Either way, this doesn't look like a snap judgment. A corporate board wouldn't make this kind of decision/announcement over a weekend, especially considering the value of endoscopy clinic to revenue.

They apparently have been planning on closing this down since June.

The timing (and the "business is booming since Rob came to stay" allusions) are nonetheless bizarre.
Ford comes in May.
They decide to sell their colon-checking division in June.
Ford finds a tumour one week in September.
People find out they do endoscopys a few days laterr and their web-page disappears on the weekend.
Star runs a story on Monday morning, saying they do em, but don't want to comment.
By noon on Monday they have a press release extolling their new streamlining of services.

I'm not saying it's a tin-foil conspiracy, but it sure is weird.

EDIT: Just to add their financial disclosures are interesting too. First time they've posted a profit was the 2nd quarter of 2014:

Might have to wait til next quarter to see the full Ford Effect.

Oh ya, lots of bizarre coincidences surrounding the big switch. Like discovering the tumour just it time to switch up the ballot. Doug registering his site months before. Maybe it's all legit, or maybe a whistleblower will come forward to expose the truth.

TBH, the truth takes second place to stopping this horse and pony show for good. They can have their drama, the city need to move on. That's the big picture one should be focused on.

Warmington is reporting that the latest Ford Fest has been postponed. Text below. (Proceed at your own risk)

TORONTO - After going back and forth on it, the Ford family has decided to “postpone†this Friday’s Etobicoke Ford Fest.

“It may happen later but right now they don’t feel it’s the proper time,†said a source close to the campaign.

It was scheduled for Friday in the former Sears parking lot at Islington and Hwy. 401. RBut with Mayor Ford in hospital awaiting biopsy results, the decision was made to hold off on the party.

Rides for the children, entertainment and food were booked, and those suppliers will be contacted today, the source said.

As of noon, singer Jenny James’ manager Brian Mann said he had not been contacted to cancel their scheduled appearance.

On behalf of James and her band, Mann extended best wishes to the mayor.

Meanwhile Doug Ford, who has replaced the mayor on the ballot, is making arrangements to set up his mayoral campaign.

However, he spent most of the weekend at the visting Rob Ford in the hospital and is expected there today.

“There will be no media news conference today or campaign kickoff,†a source close to the family said. “The whole family’s energy right now is on Rob.â€

When Doug Ford announced Friday he is running for mayor in his brother’s place, he told reporters to give him a couple of days.

Several close to him say he’s just not ready to campaign.

“It may not even happen this week,†said an insider.

But the plan, said multiple sources, is still to compete in the election.

From The Star (2013):

Fraser Macdonald, deputy director of communications in 2010, said he has not been asked to work on the 2014 campaign and “I’ve shifted out of politics and into practising law.”

As of today, no one named Fraser Macdonald is licensed to practice law in Ontario. If "Karen" started law school in 2011 (namely, if he worked for the 2010 Ford campaign full time up to election day, making it too late to start law school in 2010) he would not yet be licensed to practice.

I wonder whether, in this day and age (to use a cliche), executing camping dirty tricks might be enough to cause "Karen" to fail the good character requirement for being admitted to the profession.

One would hope so. He's admitting to being shifty :)

Cp24 confirms that silversrein, Jacobs and Massoudi are beetling about between mayor's and Doug's offices. /lb

This quite possibly pisses me off more than anything. Silverstein = campaign employee; Jacobs and Massoudi = City Employees. Silverstein should not be there at all, and Jacobs and Massoudi should not be working on campaign stuff, which they clearly are.

Would have made things much more discreet if they had installed that private door connecting their inner sanctums:

"Less than two weeks after Rob was swept into power, his transition team asked the city facilities management division how much it would cost to build a door between the brothers’ adjacent offices."

Tin foil hat time: Read the Star article on police suspicions that the Mafia is infiltrating Ontario politics.
http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2012/09/19/mafia_group_top_threat_in_gta_rcmp_says.html

Rob Ford is the obvious choice of a politician that could be recruited by the Mafia.
He's involved in drugs, hangs out with criminals and thinks of himself as some kind of "Good Fella".
The whole family has a long criminal history, they have few morals and they love money, power and fame.
But Rob turns out to be uncontrollable. He slips in the polls and they see they are losing their man in office.
They pull Doug in and tell him in no uncertain terms that he needs to fix this fast.... or else!

Plan Switcheroo...

Doug seriously thinks he can win and even lines up some of his buddies to run for other council positions.
Doug will make Rob the Deputy Mayor, and the other guys will head up various executive committees.
They plan to own Toronto for the next 4 years. Once they are in, you can't get rid of them.

Or is it because of the Star story today?

I bet they're moving Doug into the office. So he can play deputy brother.

OK. But what happens in Act II?
