Rob Ford's Toronto

That news conference was utter BS.
It was a campaign launch speech.
No more, no less.
All planned.

Olivia chow: "We should cut him some slack"? What a fool.
Doug Ford wants to cut her off at the knees.

Is this why the Chow campaign is clearly a very weak, clueless campaign, whereas the Tory campaign saw this coming a few months ago thus why Tory came out swinging at Doug Ford at his presser today.

Me - I respect Olivia's soft comments re: the Fords today vs. Tory's rather abrasive touch.

Highly rated specialists have degree of pride and oftentimes, arrogance, a common quality required to get to the top of their field, and they would not risk their professional reputation on something like this.

If Rob is indeed very sick and this needs major surgery and medical care, Mount Sinai would love to be the hospital that tried to save the mayor of Toronto. They could even use a special new procedure!

What is the Deco plan so crappy that he can't use that? Or let me guess, they don't provide any. He's the same guy bitching about the rich benefits the employees at the City get, what a hypocrite.

Also worth mentioning. He can go on Long Term Disability. 100% employer paid.

One thing I learned from this thread is that Rob and Doug are not real sticklers about punching the clock themselves ( unlike like the rest of us lunch-buckets had to. )

Even before he went into hospital, Rob has been on Modified Duty since last year.

I found the whole speech thing to be a big pile of poop. Doug and his fake breaking voice, his immediate family looking indifferent, Doug saying the Fords are all about family (while Kathy was nowhere to be seen) just had me rolling my eyes. I'm surprised Warmington wasn't holding Diane or handing Doug water.

I hope if they attack Doug in the upcoming weeks, they show the clips of him saying how much he hates being a councillor, how he expected it to be a part time job, and how he would be in Chicago once it was over.

Also, from what I've seen with my mother's diagnosis, although they will not say for sure that cancer is present until they have something definitive, like biopsy results, they can still be pretty sure. So not having the results for a week doesn't necessarily mean that the family doesn't know, if that makes sense.

Thoughts, anyone?

My experience (as mentioned pages ago) is that they will communicate their suspicion but treatment gets initiated only with confirmation of results. They may not know with 100% certainty, but oncologists can tell, and in fact will create treatment plans based on those educated guesses (backed up by diagnostic info) in order to speed the process up (cancer treatment requires pre-planning - e.g. if it's radiation therapy, they need to make a mould, create skin markers, etc - and that often involves additional scans).

As to DoFo - Toronto cannot afford someone who doesn't want to be here, and only wanted to stay because that is his brother's wish. Sorry, that's not good enough.

If you are going to troll then at least try to do it in the right topic. So frac off.

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Since Rob Ford had no chance of winning a few days ago, now he is guaranteed to become a Councillor and be a thorn in John Tory's side, as well as a side-show in the limelight, for the next 4 years. Brilliant! So when this tumour, you know, the one he's known about for years and is benign and hasn't caused him any problems until the week of the deadline, turns out to be really nothing...we can all rest assured that the people of Toronto are being looked after by the lone-wolf on Council. Brilliant. Can't wait for the biopsy results :p

All this cancer discussion scares the heck out of me. Especially as I am getting older. Thank-full my family has been spared from it. But, it's something that's always in the back of your mind.
What cancer ... the doctor said it was a mass. Wouldn't even say it was a tumour.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's simply a large lipoma. i.e ... a lump of fat.

Things that don't make sense to me: why would Mikey be needed as a placeholder, when all they needed to do was register Rob before 2 pm today? The whole placeholder concept makes no sense. Also, why have Doug run? He clearly has no desire to be a politician, he is vastly disliked, he won't win, and if rumour is to be believed, he's needed at Deco. All they needed to do was to have Rob either use his addiction recovery as an excuse, or quietly cite a health issue, register for ward 2, and voila - same result as now. So why all of this theatre and drama to go along with it, if the end result will almost certainly be the same?

Eta - I think I'm just trying to sort out my thoughts, and perhaps look for logic where there is none. Thanks for indulging me!
