I know -- let's burn down downtown, and move all of our lakefront industry to... Burlington... and change the direction of the Don to move stuff to... Barrie... and and and... maybe it's not easy to mimic Chicago as people think.
...and dye the Don River green every St. Patrick's Day.

Looks like the real motivation behind privatizing garbage collection has been revealed - Ford got first dibs on the juicy bits and paid the price.

He missed an event on Monday (I think, but maybe Tuesday -- long weekends get confusing) because of a "stomach ailment", so I expect that's related.

With Mayor Ford in the hospital and deputy Mayor Holyday in London at the Olympics, who is running the city?

It is unclear who at City Hall is filling in during the mayor’s time in hospital. Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday is in London for the Olympics. His staff said he will be back in Toronto next week.

During David Miller’s time as mayor, when he and deputy mayor Joe Pantalone were both absent, Shelley Carroll, the then-budget chief, filled in as an acting mayor. On Wednesday an assistant in the office of Councillor Mike Del Grande, the current budget chief, said he was working in his ward in Scarborough.

And he can work at the hospital just as easily as he's been ... er .... working from home City Hall

Statement from the Office of Mayor Rob Ford

Yesterday morning, Mayor Rob Ford missed an important announcement due to what was believed to be an adverse reaction to food. He was very disappointed to miss the event, a major milestone in the privatization of residential waste pick up in Toronto. It was the fulfillment of a promise he'd made during the campaign and he very much wanted to be there.

Last evening, Mayor Ford went to a local hospital where he was seen by a physician and subsequently admitted for overnight observation. Since then, he has undergone a number of routine tests and remains under doctor's care. Doctors have identified an irritation in the mayor's throat and stomach which have aggravated his asthma and he is being treated for those conditions.

The Mayor is in good spirits and is resting comfortably. He is looking forward to going home as soon as doctors allow.

Mayor Ford extends his sincere thanks to everyone who has expressed their concern and well wishes. The support has been wonderful.

The Mayor understands and appreciates the media interest in his health, however, he would ask that media respect the privacy of his family members as they come and go while visiting.
