Can a "Tickle Me Rob" doll be too far off? Just in time for Valentine's Day. :p

Why do we have to debate low blows against Ford? I'm pretty sure he has provided enough evidence of poor character that there ought not to be any standards or boundaries for commentary on the subject of Rob Ford. While I'm of the opinion that Ford demonstrated his character well enough prior to becoming mayor to have said the same thing then, it MUST now be beyond question that one should have free licence to use this thread for speculation about Ford perpetrating the most unimaginable horrors and to fantasize about the timing and mode of the thing that causes his last disgusting breath to actually be his last. He is, literally, a pile of toxic bones, tissue and failing organs, infused with stupidity and contempt for goodness and wrapped in sweaty, chameleonesque, overstretched skin. For the good of humanity, his death cannot come fast enough. That is not a knock on other unhealthy people, or people whose skin colour criss-crosses the beige-pink part of the spectrum. That is not an inappropriate sentiment about a public figure I happen to dislike. To paraphrase Rafa Benitez, "That is fact! Fact!"

Stop beating around the bush. We want to know how you REALLY feel.:)

Any idea who created this?

This was a good 'attack ad' until it pinned the high unemployment rate on Ford. Just as any argument that lauds Ford's 'job creation' record demonstrates a grossly oversimplified view of how the economy works, so too does any attack ad that criticizes him for rising unemployment.

There are thousands of legitimate ways to illustrate Ford's utter incompetence, turning his flawed logic back on himself is not one of them.

I think the unemployment rate is relevant since Ford takes credit for favourable numbers. It has to work both ways.

Hopefully I can be excused a little on-topic sorta-kinda-spam here, but I'm about to release a Ford-related record by Warren Kinsella's band, SFH, and I think it'll prove a much more interesting souvenir of this benighted period in Toronto history than any bobblehead. The a-side is "Mayor On Crack", while b-side lyrics are actually lines from the violent rant video. I'll post order details when I've approved the test pressings, but here's the blurb:

SFH - Mayor On Crack 45 (UP049)
Toronto “mayor†Rob Ford is an ignorant, corrupt, lying, bigoted, drunk-driving clown of a drug addict, so it’s clearly incumbent upon us to issue a punk rock record attacking him personally.

Luckily, SFH had already written the necessary response to this unfortunate episode in our city’s history, so we at Ugly Pop Vinyl are putting it on the 7†vinyl disc it deserves. In fact, this was recorded in June 2013, but we made no plan to release it because, as each new outrage piled onto that of the preceding day, it seemed clear that any elected official with the slightest shred of dignity or respect for his office would resign before a record could make it to the shelves. When Ford's consistently breath-taking lack of shame eventually forced us to accept that this was not going to happen, the appropriate communications were made, and this timely rant is now headed for your turntable, where it belongs.

SFH frontman Kinsella is known to aficionados of Canadian punk for his part in 1980’s HOT NASTIES EP (one of the greatest Canadian records of all time, already reissued on Ugly Pop and now in its fourth pressing), and to most of the country as a persistent thorn in the side of the national Right. His present band continue to churn out the sort of tuneful, topical but angry punk that the tasteless goons of Ford Nation would find decidedly unappealing.

Titled “Mayor On Crack†and backed with an especially sweet b-side surprise, this will be a limited pressed of 500 copies, 400 on China White vinyl and 100 on Conrad Black, with a small handful on Transparency Clear. The record is in production now and will ship in March.

Wasn't Ford claiming to have LOWERED the employment rate? Just a few weeks ago? I get your point, no political leader has control over job creation (other than by actually creating new government jobs) but I think this was just to contrast his claim. As far as oversimplified views of how the economy works, one only has to look to Council's Budget Debate. Many stunning examples, and these people are paid to know better.

There are many things to blame Ford for (aside from his personal issues), but increasing unemployment is not one of them.

By the way, ad hominem does not work against Frod Nashunals, who also love to use ad hominem back on progressives.

Comparable facts and evidence are better, though Frod Nashunals ignore them, as they cherry-pick them instead.

Soknacki also loves to use the No True Scotsman on Rob Ford, claiming that Ford is not a true conservative for building subways in Scarborough.

You are correct on all fronts, but my point is this: Playing to the absolute lowest common denominator is what got us into this mess to begin with. The solution to misinformed publics is not more misinformation

I agree, a more informed public is better all around. I'm inclined to give the employment thing a pass, though. Just look to the States every time the job numbers come out, the news that day is all about the numbers and look how good/bad President [whoever] did today. Let's just call it a little white lie...

I agree that Ford has no control over the unemployment rate. However, mayors in general spend a lot of political capital on job creation schemes, and the public judges them on it. I think it's fair to say that Ford has never had a job creation plan other than the casino (which wasn't his idea), keeping residential taxes low (which ironically puts more pressure on the commercial tax base) and repeating ad nauseam that Toronto is "open for business". The Toronto Board of Trade's very public rejection of Ford is evidence that they have no faith in his ability to create a good business climate in the city.

All this to say that I think job creation is fair game for criticizing Ford. Is using the unemployment rate specifically inappropriate? Perhaps. But it is appropriate to say that we could do a lot better in the area of job creation with a new mayor.
