Rob Ford's Toronto

The gross part is dissecting a girl who is basically just more of Ford's collateral damage.

And that's my whole point - ever since that stag party picture was posted that's ALL that's been happening, with the odd sop to "it reflects on his judgment" thrown in to cover for the fact that it's been almost wholly a discussion of what kind of woman she is.

Another big day in court tomorrow as media lawyers will argue for the release of wiretaps and info related to the Lisi investigation. Should we expect Justice Nordheimer to rule in favour of the media as he has been doing? Or will public disclosure of wiretaps hurt Lisi's chances for a fair trial? Here's hoping we'll get access to those wiretaps.

Re the cheating, if the information in the ITO is accurate he displayed a total lack of discretion and an enormous sense of entitlement about it, as he does in everything else. He brought his sex life and his sexual proclivities to work, in a major way.

Like OK, some people have open marriages. But I'd bet his staffers did not know whether that was the case here. It really sucks to put your employees in a position where they feel they have to cover for you while you do immoral things, and Ford apparently did that again and again and again.

It's just people doing the Scooby thing. Information becomes available people are going to speculate and follow the leads. Alana hasn't dominated conversation here anymore than any other tidbit (what Ford was drinking in his water glass, for example). It's all part of the puzzle: some people are going to be outraged by sexual indiscretion and others are going to get wonky about whether or not something Ford said on a TV program can be construed as electioneering outside the campaign window.

Argh I've been trying to ignore this Alana discussion for two days. Even if she is a sex worker and even if he did have her in his office and even if she was his connection (all of which, I might add, is based on the speculation of one of his staffers and a few pictures of her in lingerie dug up online), it's like THE LEAST EGREGIOUS THING he's done. There are SO MANY MORE AWFUL THINGS he's participated in. I'm not saying it's not important to mention it, but days and days of discussing "is she, isn't she" and all the parsing of job descriptions and the whole creepy level of misogyny that's rippled under the surface (or right out in the open occasionally) of these comments... fuck. I mean did I really see someone referencing the sanctity of marriage at one point? I happen to believe that him having a hooker in his office is not the best judgment (if she is or was a hooker). But who gives a fuck if he's cheating on his wife? That is so beside the point.

Agreed. It seems hearing that Rob Ford might spend time escorts and uses the 'p' word (the horror!) pushed everyone over the edge and forced council to respond immediately. Associating with drug dealers and other criminals should be the main focus.

Can anyone remember the councillor's name who held up the ITO during her statement? She said something along the lines of 'we need to pass this motion because of all the disturbing evidence in these pages. Pages that reveal dark and dangerous behaviour. And we don't even know the full story yet.' I clapped my hands and said thank you to the TV when she spoke ;)

She also said the most disturbing details were on a particular page. Can anyone remember the page number? It might be 138, but I haven't read everything yet.

Unfortunately people respond to salacious behaviour. It's disappointing. But I'm also relieved that something was finally done to hold Ford accountable. So I'm not going to complain as much as I normally would.

Which is all fair except it's not the case for a lot of that discussion. Go back to when that picture was posted. There has been an ongoing, very prominent discussion parallel to the discussion about his behaviour, that is still ongoing, that started with a long discussion about her wearing the uniform of a slut (someone quoted Chappelle) and has continued into a discussion about whether she's a sex worker and what defines a sex worker and a whole lot of other stuff about what sort of person she is. It's really pervy. I get that certain information is titillating and people like to discuss that stuff but it's gone very far afield.

And as for the thing about the TV program that I've been discussing. Yeah, I thought it was important. I said my piece about it in my post, posted about it here, posted a few more times about it when the city got back to me with answers, and now that it's cancelled will drop it until and unless the other complaints I made (CRTC, integrity commissioner) reveal new areas to discover. I'm also not against having an intellectual discussion about the ramifications of it (or the ramifications of Ford having a woman in his office who may or not be a prostitute as it relates to his judgment or even morality although that's an icky subject in itself since cheating--as opposed to lying to constituents about smoking crack, for example--is a far more prevalent occurrence in society at large). It's the very long drawn out discussion about her and what she is and if how she dresses is a factor in determining that that I find really, really gross.

Shelley Carroll, pg 189 (?) it was regarding the phone calls around March 26th and a few more days.

And her repeatedly flipping the pages was really annoying, but she was right regarding the phone calls. Hopefully, that's what the cops are also focusing on.

The Sun's @Shawn_Jeffords tells me Mayor Rob Ford is in his office right now trying to get 2 junior staffers to stay working for him.

Looks like controversial mayoral staffer David Price could be odd man out of staff shuffle between Ford and Kelly.

It was Shelley Carroll, and she referred to page 189 (I think), the three days of phone calls between Lisi and Ford when Anthony Smith was killed.

Not just his moral compass, but his judgement.

I mean, the shocking part of the allegation is not so much him being with a prostitute, but that he would do it in public and even at the mayor's office.

I can't believe much pearl-clenching is going on over this. And just a reminder that all of this is based on one person's comment in a police report saying that she may have been an escort. That was the end of it. Do you know how many people look like they may be an escort on any given night downtown, especially in the entertainment district?

For a forum that routinely lambasts the mythological Ford Nation over its biases and lack of critical thinking, it's quite amazing just how off the rails things can go around here.

Yes, judgment is fair game, which is why this was one more interesting and important tidbit (rumour really considering the lack of corroboration on this one) to add to the pile. A two day discussion with pages upon pages trying to define what a sex worker is is just ridiculous. And creepy. And pervy. And lame.

Rob Ford, by saying that Alana Kindree is a friend, has dared us to prove otherwise, and we're well on our way on that count. It's not about sexual mores, it's about finding another level on which Ford has lied. I don't see what's creepy or pervy, other than Ford's behaviour.

That said, who cares what the definition of sex worker is? Not the issue.

What defines a prostitute or sex worker has been more a recent tangent (last couple hours). Something everyone has an opinion about like is it a national newspaper if you can't buy it in Quebec. Not so much about the woman herself, although I'm sure there will be lots of talk about her once she does a couple interviews.
