"Officers from the city's Emergency Task Force were called to the intersection of King Street West and Blue Jays Way after a white, four-door Honda Civic was stopped by police at about 3:30 a.m. Two men were taken into custody. Police say they are preparing to lay charges.

Two bomb-disposal robots were sent in to investigate the trunk, and a duffel bag inside that police deemed suspicious.

The stop was part of an ongoing investigation into a recent string of overnight arsons in the city's downtown core.

Yes, my TPS source came through in spades. Makes me pay even closer attention to what that source told me about the escort service Ford connection.

I just watched a news video of Norm Kelly, in which Kelly responded unscripted to press questions.

Not that I subscribe entirely to Kelly's ideologies, but here are some observations:

-he's articulate
-he answers in measured sentences and smiles easily, is at ease with himself and with his interviewers -- can handle the public, no problem
-he even looks mayorish if conservative is what you're going for.

In short, this will be a welcome change from Ford, such as things go.

I look forward to boring days in City Council -- but we know that won't happen. Ford will probably live in denial and attempt to chair committees and continue to lose his mind in council meetings. Still, it's a big relief to get out of the crazy haze. A mayor who answers questions! Wow...

I'm largely satisfied with this and feel that a huge splash of water was just thrown on this fire. With Ford so completely neutered, he's either going to blow the lid off completely or he's going to mope around defeated like after the reality hammer came down in his conflict of interest trial. Either way, I think the media circus is going to dissipate shortly.

I'm looking beyond this already and am working on a project to bring the city back together and heal the divisions that Ford fostered. Toronto will recover and we need to make the next year such a positive contrast that no way will people want to go back to the Ford circus.

Kelly was a history professor who taught at the elitist Upper Canada College (the socialite John Tory graduated from this elite institution) . Another thing you should know about Kelly is he is a longtime LIBERAL!

So what we got was a slimy smooth-talking LIBERAL elitist as our UN-ELECTED mayor!

Then you shouldn't have elected a Mayor who was so predictably going to fuck up so catastrophically.

PS. Ford appointed Norm Kelly to his second in command.

I actually think council handled an appallingly difficult situation very well. The only people squealing about anti-democracy are the Fords. I have an Israeli friend who has an op-ed in a Tel Aviv daily who wrote on Saturday in approval of how it was done in Toronto (I've been feeding him the story). In Israel he says they shoot first and ask questions later, and as a result political removals are common.

I can't believe much pearl-clenching is going on over this. And just a reminder that all of this is based on one person's comment in a police report saying that she may have been an escort. That was the end of it. Do you know how many people look like they may be an escort on any given night downtown, especially in the entertainment district?

For a forum that routinely lambasts the mythological Ford Nation over its biases and lack of critical thinking, it's quite amazing just how off the rails things can go around here.

Anyway, I heard on Radio 1 that 'Ford (abomi-)Nation' was cancelled due to production costs.

Um.....was Fordiot demanding jugs of booze and pigs'-worth of sausages or is that code for "wow...they ARE fucked"?
Or did I maybe hear wrong?
Anyone hear different?

The Toronto Star live chat today was pretty adamant that there is no connection between Ford and the Anthony Smith murder and no evidence that the video was shot on Smith's cell phone.

Had to focus on work today and missed that. Either way catching Ford in lies is pointless now. There's tonnes of examples. There's two ways to end the Ford debacle.

1. Police arrest him for serious crimes
2. If he somehow is still around next year - VOTE HIM OUT.

Question - can someone charged with a crime still run for Mayor?

Hah if that's the case that's pretty nuts. They (apparently) weren't getting paid. And it was a talking head show in their own studio with a little video production for that Levant montage and the cost of doing streeters. So if that's true than it was either A) like you said some kind of crazy greenroom crack buffet, or B) Ezra Levant is actually an NDP supporter and every time he speaks Sun ideology they have to buy him a lamborghini.

Do we need to search the internet for more photos of her and post them here? I suppose it's human nature but it's still disappointing. She'll probably change her legal name to distance herself from the whole mess to protect her privacy and safety.

I would also like to add that the three girls in yon apparently argument-inducing photo could be any number of my friends at a get-together, music event or festival, or odd night out. None of said friends are hookers or escorts and only some are sluts. But then, so am I and I dress nothing like that, ever.

DoRoFo's 15 minutes are up, at least until the crack video surfaces, there is another police bombshell (if there is another such bombshell) and/or if Rob Ford himself explodes.

The US media are done with him, his interviews are repetitive and add nothing to the narrative and he has been stripped of his powers. He has no news value anymore, unless another AM station picks up the Ford Nation show or he does something totally outrageous.

Given his behaviour, and the denial and enabling from his family and supporters, I expect that he will run off the rails very soon. I can only hope there is no collateral damage.
