Project Traveller search warrants ordered released by judge, but documents remain redacted, under publication ban

http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/0...on-ban/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

The court on Friday unsealed one of 36 packages of informations to obtain a search warrant (ITOs). The first package explains why police requested a dozen of the more than 80 warrants involved in this summer’s Project Traveller guns-and-gangs raids.

But the documents are heavily redacted, and the limited portion made available Friday remains under a publication ban, pending further arguments.

I heard on the radio that in the Thursday Star (print version), the Ford / Price story was front page news and not the train / bus crash in Ottawa. I will check the old papers at the library if this is true.

If true, it does reflect poorly on the Star and their claim that they are not unfairly picking on the Mayor.

Broadsheets (unlike tabloids like the Sun or Now) have more than one story on the front page. The Star's front page for that day has both items, both under the fold:

Ottawa crash did have less space than the other, but both were there. Take from that what you will.

The print version was likely printed BEFORE the bus crash happened

Very likely...the tragic crash happened in the morning rush hour commute (sorry, can't remember the exact time).....the print version of the Star (any paper really) to be distributed and delivered to people's doorsteps before they embark on their own morning commutes.

Unless the Star has a crystal ball....they could not have had the unfortunate events in Ottawa on their front page that day.

The Star prints some good news about Ford: Mayor Rob Ford joins campaign to free Canadians detained in Egypt

Mayor Rob Ford has joined the campaign to release Canadians John Greyson and Tarek Loubani from prison in Cairo, where they been detained for more than a month without charges.

In a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Ford expressed concern for the men, and articulated his support for Ottawa’s ongoing attempts to free them.

“We respectfully offer the support of the City of Toronto and its Council to you and the Government of Canada as you make every effort to secure the immediate release and return home of these individuals,” he wrote.

Greyson, a Toronto filmmaker and Loubani, an emergency room doctor from London, Ont., were arrested in Cairo on Aug. 16 amid mass demonstrations. According to their families, they were detained when they entered a police station to ask for directions.

Greyson’s sister said she is “very appreciative” of the support from the mayor and council.

“I think (the letter) indicates how much the people of Toronto are concerned about this case,” Cecilia Greyson said. “We’re all just really worried about their health and well being and safety.”

Judge releases Project Traveller search warrant — almost entirely blacked out

When Bill Blair first refused to exonerate Rob Ford from connection to the Project Traveller investigation, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and figured it was his way of implying that the Mayor was connected, and that the truth would be revealed to the public in short order. As we continue to witness the Crown stonewall and redact information about the operation, an anxious public is left twisting in the wind, not knowing if the Mayor of Canada's largest city has links to drug and gun criminals.

It isn't enough for the Toronto Police, or the Ministry of the Attorney General to assure us that the truth will out. As it has been noted, the evidence collected will only be public knowledge if it is presented in open court. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if every Project Traveller defendant gets a plea deal, if only to prevent the public from learning this information. Even if we learn about potential links via court proceedings, it will mean the voters will face the prospect of an election before this time.

It is a serious affront to our democracy that the voters of Toronto are being denied clarity regarding their Mayor and organized crime with an election looming in little over one year.

Rant done.

It's just another bs non story dredged up by the professional maggots at the Red Star and blown out of proportion to smear the most popular fiscally conservative mayor in Toronto history. Rob Ford is out there today fighting for the TCHC community and DoLittle and friends are spending their time doing this hatchet job on his young hardworking staff.

They weren't reporting on David Miller when he couldn't get his hands on the GST, when he couldn't get his hands on the land transfer tax, when he couldn't get money for his precious streetcars. The microscope wasn't on him when he blew up! It's all on Rob Ford. They want to spend like drunken sailors so they put him under more scrutiny than any mayor in history to discredit and distract the hardworking taxpayers. It's sickening.

Welcome back, sir/madam. It's been exhausting trying to keep these UT commies in line during your absence.

I sense you're holding back, your amongst friends, let your ideas flow.
