Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 (nCoV-2019)

How do you keep a pandemic going? You lift mask mandates too soon. Since the removal of mask mandates the UK seeing a rise in cases and hospitalizations. This will be Ontario in a few months.

And the notion that one can choose to wear a mask anyway discounts the fact that even respirators are not always effective when used near people who are not wearing any mask. I am quite sure that is how I caught COVID in early January.

The graph is instructive. Restrictions were all lifted right where it recently bottomed out.

It's good people aren't dying as much in Britain now, but since their all-time COVID death rate is almost 3 times that of Canada, that's not very relevant. And saying Omicron is less virulent doesn't mean much when you look at the tens of thousands of Americans who died since December.

Not many people who get the flu end up sick or disabled for extended periods of time, but that can very well happen after even a mild case of COVID. Many kids still aren't vaccinated and less than half the population has received a booster. Masking should be maintained until cases are much lower than they are now. Anyway, the decision has been made, and we will have to live with the consequences. Or not. I just can't wait for the election.

Reminding me of early 2020 :( .....

China places 17 million residents of Shenzhen under Covid lockdown.

This is the result of utter foolishness on the part of the Hong Kong government - betting the bank on stopping COVID at the border while not doing their due diligence in ensuring the most vulnerable (70+) are fully vaccinated (nevermind boosted). This tragedy is entirely predictable. We shall see whether China can hold Omicron at bay or whether they will have to play rearguard and manage its' spread.

Canada lifting pre-arrival COVID-19 testing requirement as of April 1

From link.

Soon, travellers entering Canada will not have to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test, CTV News has learned.

As of April 1, the federal government will be lifting the pre-arrival COVID-19 testing requirement at the border for fully vaccinated travellers.

Passengers may still be subjected to random PCR testing at the airport, and travellers will still have to use the ArriveCan app, according to a senior government source.
Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra and Tourism Minister Randy Boissonnault will be announcing the latest easing of pandemic travel restrictions on Thursday.

With a report from Senior Political Correspondent for CTV News Channel Mike Le Couteur

More to come...

Will wait till April 2nd, however. Just in case...
