Montréal Transit Developments

They reported in the video that "it would take 10 minutes to travel [between the airport and Dorval] at 35km/h."
I hope they meant to say the frequency of 10 minutes otherwise somethings is very wrong here. haha

Does anyone have the report? I'm having trouble finding it.
Yeah, mistake from the journalist. I'm looking for the report too.
 
The people whose fares will be increased will compensate for those whose fares will be decreased.

The biggest losers seem to be people from Brossard who currently only need to take RTL buses to go downtown. Their fare will be increased from $100 to $144 per month when the REM replaces the bus service.



Correct. There will also be a different fare which will only include buses (zones 1+2+3), for $110/month.

Yes. that's true, but it only hurts direct RTL-Terminus Centre-Ville trips that do not require another transfer - mostly downtown office workers, Concordia and McGill students, etc. At least though we're seeing a pretty good fare integration as well - it's not like GO Transit withdrawing from York University and forcing a new double fare because we can't figure out integration here.

I was worried that REM was going to operate in its own fare system separate from STM and the suburban agencies. This is pretty damned good.

Our Bureau of Investigation has learned that the construction of the station planned under the terminal, which was to connect the airport and downtown Montreal in 20 minutes, is being compromised by serious financial difficulties."


The title is bit of a stretch, and sensationalist journalism at its best.

The ADM is facing a budget crunch of $500 million this year, and they need $600 million to build the stations under the airport (the boring machines have already started). As of this week, the airport is currently in discussions with Economic Development Canada and Marc Garneau to find a financing solution. Economic Development Minister Melanie Joly personally said "it goes without saying we will have an REM station at the airport" and that it'd "defeat the whole purpose of REM" without the airport station. It's highly unlikely Ottawa, CPDQ, or the Quebec government will leave one (very very important) REM station unfunded, and risk jeopardizing the whole REM system.

Interesting that there was no "talk" about a Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau Transit Hub by now?
 
All 12 platform doors have been installed at the Du Quartier REM Station in South Shore. This will be one of the first stations to be deployed starting in Sprint 2021 for rolling stock testing.
