GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

April 08
The steel support for the CN Signal bridge is now on site to be erected at Hamilton Desjardins Canal. Not track work, but should get underway with the warm weather here now. Just arrived in time to catch CN 1501 RDC heading south. No new track work the new GO Station.

nice shot of the CN RDC! looks really shiny and well maintained! They modified the front end with a large window where the door was

Will any electrification work have been commenced before the election? Or is it all RER prep work like grade separations, embankments, etc.?

It lkooks like they plan to have two tracks and they also have concrete footings in place for over head cantery much like they did with the section of track for the UPX spur.

I would guess the concrete footings are for a chain link fence that usually gets put between the tracks at two platform stations, they are too closely spaced for overhead.

Here is a picture I took of West Harbour yesterday (April 15th, 2017) of track #2 partially installed. I was scouting real estate, and let me tell you the surrounding area is ready to explode with various developments at various stages. All-day service (whenever that happens) will give this area an adrenaline shot to the heart, beyond what is already happening.

I couldn't see any progress on connecting the two tracks back to the mainline on the east side near Liuna Station, which is too bad considering Niagara Summer service, which could stop here, starts soon-ish-ish.

The Niagara service is too infrequent to warrant the use of the second track. It works on evenings and weekends when demand on the line is lowest. They will have to double track it to at least St. Catherine's once Niagara service is put in as a regular daily occurrence.

This is for terminating Lakeshore West in West Harbour.

I was referring to connecting one or both West Harbour tracks a through tracks rather than terminus ones - West Harbour would be a great addition as a stop to seasonal Niagara service, however this is physically impossible right now due to the track setup, sadly.

A very temporary situation, until they finish construction. Don't forget that GO has already constructed the new storage yard further east at Lewis Road. I really can't see that they plan to move the trains past West Harbour GO, and then reverse them into the platform! :)

Besides, you can already see that the new track and platform are curved back toward the CN mainline.
