count me in on that group! hahaha, I grew up on Bay street in the shadow of many of our towers from that era. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't have quite the same appreciation for tall towers that I have today. Saw some of them built right before my eyes, Skydome, SotiaPlaza, and BCE place among others. So I definitely agree with that statement, you really do see buildings in a very different way when you've grow up around them.
I think the "worlds tallest" was a badge of pride that we wore as kids, a kind of ...Arrival statement!! It became something our moms told us every time we were in the area,.... the look up kids.... that you never get in most places.... to this degree.
So we're instilled with, height as acknowledgment or recognition of place. Thus we grow up as skyscraper geeks, cause we grew up looking up,... and cranes and rebar excite us and we bristle with pride as our city stretches skyward and into the global arena.
