2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Mayoral Race

Olivia Chow is a socialist.
How do we define a socialist with regards to Olivia Chow? Please don't post a wiki or other link, but instead explain what a socialist is in this regard. Thanks.

IMO, Olivia Chow hasn't done anything of substance to indicate what political leanings she has. Beyond being Jack's spouse, would we even know her beyond some distant memory of some councilor from nine or ten years ago?

There's a rumour that Stephen Harper has asked Chow if she'd accept an appointment as the next Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario. If true, that would shake things up.

And to add to that - not only does she already have a pension PM Harper would be crazy to put in a LG who might exercise their "Power of the Throne" in "touchy" governmental matters he wants to end on his say-so.

She won't make it to October. The working theory seems to be that she's been planning to drop out since the beginning.

I notice that the mayoral election spending limit is 1.3 mil while councillor is 30 or 40k. Which means that you can wildly outspend everyone else in your ward in general getting your name out there advertising if you started as a mayoral candidate.

How about someone who understands and values both? Who care's what the world thinks?

Like me? (All rumours of my running for the mayoralty are false)

What the world thinks is important insofar as attracting top talent and business are concerned.

David Soknacki, former Scarborough councillor and budget chief, is the first second tier candidate to declare his nomination. Could be a dark horse. (He might be my second or third choice.)

Chinh Huynh
Greg Isaacs
Robb Johannes

That Al Gore is obviously not the former vice-president.

Ford's lack of a serious campaign team is already showing:

Ford is using his City of Toronto email address, phone number and office resources to campaign -- a violation of election rules.

I've been making this point for some time now but even I've become more convinced that Ford is screwed without a knowledgeable campaign team. He may have the name recognition and a "nation" of supporters but to break out of the 30%, he's going to need campaign financing and a team that can help him strategize to become palateable to more voters and to avoid traps set by other candidates. He has neither the fundraising nor the campaign expertise. This will be fun to watch.

His crack campaign team, or should that be campaign team on crack?, has changed the phone number on the site to his home number.

They did. After it was pointed out on Twitter.

Campaigns are very complex machines with many moving parts. Kouvalis did a great job of keeping Ford on message and saved his ass on multiple occasions. He got Ford out of the OxyContin campaign ending phone call. He pre-empted Ford's front page mugshot. He prevented John Tory from running. Kouvalis also used his network to get big names fundraising for the Ford campaign. Who will do all this now? Doug?

Only way Rob Ford will win is if Olivia Chow runs. The polarization Chow will just put everyone over the edge.

Here's Hoping someone genuine and qualified like Tory declares in March!

Sounds like wishful thinking to me; all the polls I've seen show Chow blowing any likely opposing lineup out of the water.

I'm inferring from that that you don't think Chow is genuine or qualified. If that's so, would you mind explaining why not? If I've misunderstood your meaning, I apologise.
