Re: Opposed to the current design?

Oh no the idiot insulted me!

That theory by the way is one I was echoing from other members here. You've made it pretty obvious what you've been up to. Where are these people that share your views about sending letters? We're still waiting to hear from them. You say they don't need your permission to post, maybe they just need an invitation or something. If I have spare time tomorrow I'll set up a few new accounts to back up with newbies why I'm so much better then you. And no don't model yourself after me, this cities not big enough for original me as well as a new idiot me walking around.

Anyway, seriously why are you writing that ridiculous letter when the final design isn't even done yet?

p.s- Don't call me a fruitcake, I know a few and you've insulted them by lumping me in with those fine people. Why don't you get back to your porn now before your mom comes in and makes you turn off your lights.

Good night umademethisway or is it rogueplayercaramel or rebelchickinlove or terrorchickalarmed ?

Re: Opposed to the current design?

EnviroTO, this writing campaign is one of various protest methods that we hope to implement.

Who is we? Are there more people who would write to complain that they aren't getting their favourite design of a private building when the proposed design isn't all that bad and the scales of the two designs are almost identical?

What’s more, the impression given on a variety of web sites and forums is that the public favors the previous rendering. The response we have received already, though not exceedingly overwhelming, is impressive and very promising. With successful implementation of our other strategies, it is easy to anticipate considerable growth in support of a modification to this design.

Successful implementation of your other strategies? What other strategies? The response "we" have received? Who is "we"?

What is most regrettable is your failed attempt to make my efforts and statements appear unintelligible.

I made no attempts to do anything other than to point out three issues with your plan and post. I really don't know how I would even go about making an "effort" of yours appear unintelligible, and I definitely would have a hard time making a statement you posted appear unintelligible without actually editing your statement posing as you.

What is humorous, or rather pitiable, is that you seem to be the only person blind to the fact that there are several messages in this forum that are “poor in its sentence structure, poor in its use of proper tenses, poor in its use of proper descriptive words, and poor in its creations of good arguments…â€

Those people aren't using big words or words that aren't part of mainstream dialogue in their posts and trying to make their posts look professional. You are making posts in which it seems you are portraying yourself as something you are not. You are not a master of the English language so drop the big words and focus on a clear message and a clear argument.

one has to wonder why it is that you chose to target one of the better-written letters.

You're joking right?

1 BE - Soap Opera?

I really do not want to get involved in this argument. I'm not really on either "side," I just want to say that this forum has become very entertaining for me!

Re: 1 BE - Soap Opera?

And sadly it needs to come to an end or this thread wont last much longer.

Re: 1 BE - Soap Opera?

Meh - whatever. umademethisway had it comin. I honeslt thought I had joined the cast of the Simpsons while reading some of his posts.

S Y B I L are you listening?

Re: 1 BE - Soap Opera?

This has been hugely entertaining! I think in real life it would be essentially impossible for dontblamemeformakinguthisway to intersect with EnviroTO unless it was in a teacher/ pupil, parent/child context.

A part of me wants to applaud the kid for taking a stand. That letter took time and fully depleted someone's vocabulory. The problem is, I get the sense its more an probing attempt to affect change - to see whether its possible to alter events from an internet cafe. The focus of the attempt is not relevant.

A greater concern is that our new friend simply can't be allowed to leave home writing or speaking in this manner. It is our duty to intervene. My sense is we're not the first to try.

Re: 1 BE - Soap Opera?

I commend umademethisway and others for taking a stand on this forum. It isn't the easiest thing to go against some of Urban Toronto's forum members, so umademethisway shows bravery - maybe it’s stupidity I don’t know. However, I don't think this is the project to ‘take a stand’ on as the final designs aren't out yet. Let’s just bury this conflict until we are given a final design. Sound good to anyone?

Re: 1 BE - Soap Opera?

I think that it is an excellent idea to publicly push for changes to projects that fail to meet expectations. However, the design for 1BE is still in flux, so I would wait for the 'final' design to be revealed before starting a letter campaign.

A better target right now would be that monstrosity misnamed 'Symphony', which is truly a massive mistake (I am using a polite word here). It would be difficult to get changes made, since Miller is, for some unknown reason, railroading it through, with shovels in the ground scheduled for this July. But given that many architects have publicly expressed their dislike of it, a letter campaign might be enough to at least delay it enough for an impartial design review to take place.

Re: 1 BE - Soap Opera?

God, just when one thinks they've found relief from that irritating siberiankhatru-socialwoe sparring disaster...

Re: 1 BE - Soap Opera?

Gawd, somebody let the Internet into this forum.

Re: 1 BE - Soap Opera?

Note that I, of all people, hadn't pitched into this petition-attack fray...

Toronto real estate prices

"Prices of real estate are still undervalued compared to the world cities"

I cringe when I read these cliches. Toronto prices are set by local economic factors. Incomes (particularly heavily burdened after-tax incomes) are significantly lower in Toronto than any of the plethora of really big cities (ie alpha cities) that Toronto is routinely compared to by the slick condo marketing media. Successful Toronto condo builders (as opposed to Kazakh builders- is this really not a Borat spoof on the lame Canadian public, c'mon!) build to the indigenous market. While it would be simply grand to think of Toronto as some sort of exotic vacation/resort destination or world financial capital the reality is that it is not and therefore the market for real demand by foreign buyers, (vs. speculative demand) is really quite limited.

If the project does go ahead it will surely be a much needed boost for this area but with the buckets of supply raining down on the district and the dubious track record of the builder I remain quite skeptical of its success. To be sure, if Kolter, a successful local builder with a very respectable track record, passed on the opportunity to mint mega-dollars from this site why are we to assume that an outsider has the right forumula to do so?

Opinions matter much and that is only mine.

Re: Toronto real estate prices

the dubious track record of the builder

why would you say that? their only track record locally, so far, is Crystal Blue, which, iirc, is in fact successful at this point...

Re: Toronto real estate prices

They are taking down some of the signage on the building and also put up what looks like hoarding on the roof.
