CBC radio had a segment talking to an engineer i believe, who made reference to the same glass supplier for all these buildings, and impurities in the glass. I'm sure we can all guess where he was inferring the supplier was from. True or not, i don't know. A new railing contractor has been...

It's all smoke and mirrors. There is actually a building there, that is magically being disguised, only to be revealed when it peaks above the special curtain. This will all be come apparent when Jobe from Arrested Developement makes an appearance for his big magic show, and people can begin...

How much equipment is on site? Too much equipment and the wrong type for the initial start of construction means it's just there for storage.

Maybe it's a labour shortage and they have to wait for Ice, L Tower, Aura and Shangri La to finish to get skilled help, and enough concrete to pour a pad for the Jimmy John.

I agree, nice building. It looks like it is great shape. It's obviously not protected, or this proposal would not be happening. That's too bad. There is lots of parking lots and derelict buildings to build on instead of this one.

Toronto Ryerson's Mattamy Athletics Centre + Loblaws at the Gardens | ?m | ?s | Ryerson University | Turner Fleischer

I agree MLSE sports is being petty about a 3000 seat arena for a university, but legally, Loblaws broke a contract they signed. They must have known before they signing that Ryerson was going to be a partner. Where were their lawyers? This could put a halt to the makeover for eons.

All this excitement, and they still haven't put a shovel in the ground yet. It's beginning to loose it's sparkle as other exciting projects actually begin construction. Even the latest rumors are starting to feel more like reality than 1Bloor. We'll all feel better when it finally gets started...

650 Bay St Boutique Hotel Redevelopment (Lanterra, ?s, ?)

The tile doesn't look like a pro installation, and they are going to destroy the building's integrity. It won't look like a heritage building. I thought there was a defined line when renovating buildings on a historical list, or maybe this isn't on the list at all.

Sounds like a shed with mood lighting like my neighbours had built. But then again maybe not.

I worked in the industrial electrical area for 31 years, and people died every year in that field. It's the nature of the job. The same as the police and construction. The numbers go up and down in relation to the number of people working in that job. Now back on topic.

Have they actually started digging on the site yet? Until then it's just a storage site for plants and construction equipment.

Do the people that bought a unit in this development have an out if construction doesn't start by a certain date? If i bought one, i'd be a bit upset by now.

The city requires builders in some cases to save historically significant buildings by incorporating the existing structure into the new. In some cases we end up with a brick wall and a door, and a 30 or 40 story glass and steel structure that looks a bit ridiculous. What's the point. If you...

    Toronto Sun Life Financial Tower & Harbour Plaza Residences | 236.51m | 67s | Menkes | Sweeny &Co

I would hope there is no serious consideration about tearing the Harbour Commission building down. There is more character in that building than any new construction will provide. A few derelict Victorians is one thing, but this is something completely different.

New houses. They put a layer of topsoil down before they lay sod. Sometimes the so called "topsoil" should be used for fill, but the new homeowners don't know if the new sod is already down. It's worth lots of cash.

    Toronto Ripley's Aquarium of Canada | 13.11m | 2s | Ripley Entertainment | B+H

I was at the Aquarium in the Mandalay Bay hotel in Vegas. It was interesting walking under, and over the the tank. The smaller fish have room to roam. I have a problem with places like Marineland that keep dolphins and whales in a tank. It would be like one of us being restricted to and area the...

    Toronto X2 Condominiums | 160.93m | 49s | Lifetime | Wallman Architects

I'm not sure what the state of these Victorian buildings were in, but it's still sad to see them destroyed. Density is the prime mover in downtown real estate. Understandable in a lot of cases. Maybe this was one of them. The sad thing is, once there gone, never to be seen again. We in Canada...
