May 2026 brought lots of news that felt like surprises, with Pearson airport embarking on billions of dollars worth of improvements, a new highway went under construction, digging is progressing for a brand new subway line… and of course there were lots of developments that either debuted as proposals across the Greater Toronto Area, or hit construction milestones, providing lots to take in and talk about!
Let's review our top ten news stories, database files, and threads from May, 2026.
Our Top Ten Most Read News Stories
A theme from May would be a surprising number of attention-getters from more suburban areas of the GTA. Two big development projects in Oakville and one in Bowmanville stole lots of thunder, even as projects across Toronto continued to make news... Pearson International Airport made a big announcement... but nothing grabbed as many eyeballs as did word that work was commencing on a new expressway across the south of the Lake Simcoe area, Highway 425, to link Highway 400 near Bradford with Highway 404 near Queensville.

Our Top Ten Most Searched Database Files
It's not a surprise to see Toronto's tallest and/or most prominent construction projects and proposals jostling for space at the top of the list; front page stories can drive less-often searched projects to prominence for a while, as happened with Q Tower and 4800 Yonge this past month.

Our Top Ten Busiest Threads
Our busiest threads emphasize what was mostly missing from our top news stories this month: that transport projects are the focus of a lot of activity on our Forums, both new transit lines in the city, and of course the Federal government's ALTO project intercity project that could put Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City within a short train ride some time off in the future.
