50 Scollard has risen as one of the latest additions to Toronto's upscale Bloor-Yorkville area. Nearly six months after UrbanToronto’s last update, the 41-storey tower by Lanterra Developments has topped off, with glazing and cladding now climbing steadily to shape its facade. Designed by Foster + Partners with Arcadis as the Architect of Record, this slender mixed-use condominium is transforming the northeast corner of Bay and Scollard streets.
Looking east along Scollard Street in November, 2024, the recently topped-off tower showcases its terraced form with step-backs visible at the 29th and 36th floors. Above, the structure culminates in its final six residential storeys beneath the mechanical penthouse. The tower crane rises centrally along the west elevation, with the construction hoist to its right, scaling the uniform end of the west elevation. Precast cladding panels, meanwhile, are climbing the lower portion of the facade, ascending to the 18th floor at that point.
From this vantage point looking northwest one month later, the east elevation features the tripartite Chicago-style windows reaching approximately the seventh floor on the left and the 12th floor on the right. The building’s precast frames rise to the 13th floor at the central section of the facade. On the narrower south elevation at left, precast panel cladding continues upward, now reaching the ninth floor. At grade, the relocated heritage row houses, positioned behind extensive scaffolds, were carefully shifted to accommodate a planned piazza as part of a POPS (Privately-Owned Publicly-accessible Space) at Bay and Scollard.
Looking southeast from Davenport Street at the start of this month, 50 Scollard’s slender profile and articulated massing take centre stage. The lower volume fronting Bay Street is clad in precast panels up to the ninth floor, with frames extending several floors above. Along the north elevation, the panels rise to the 14th floor, beneath eight levels of tan-coloured insulation panels. The surrounding skyline features the soon-to-be-completed 11 YV to the left and the more distant The One between them.
Viewed directly across Bay Street, the west elevation features the Chicago-style windows, framed in beige-coloured aluminum. The precast frames rise to approximately the 16th floor on the right.
Meanwhile, precast panels continue to be installed along the south elevation, with four sections of recessed volumes resulting from the stepped massing. Scaffolding and hoarding at ground level secure the active worksite.
Standing at a final height of 147.62m, upon completion 50 Scollard will offer 148 luxury residential units.
