As the crisp air heralds the coming of winter, sub-grade construction steadily progresses for Maison 77 Clarendon, a stately addition to Toronto's South Hill neighbourhood. Name for its address at 77 Clarendon Avenue, the project by Menkes Developments will be an exclusive 5-storey luxury condominium designed by Richard Wengle Architect. The project fuses traditional pre-war architectural motifs with a modern design sensibility.

As of the end of 2023, the construction site has transformed from demolition and excavation to foundation construction, following tower crane installation mid-year. In a photo from in October, below, the crane rises over the site, while at ground level, a compact excavator awaits use again for the sub-grade construction. Behind it, underground levels are taking shape.

An aerial perspective looking south from November captures the site's progress in its upmarket South Hill setting. From this vantage point, we see how the building is positioned, set back from the curving contours of Russell Hill Road as it descends into a treed, neighbourhood ravine. Construction materials and equipment are placed atop the concrete grade slab.

Another view from November provides a view looking southeast. While the site is currently gives no hints, a building sympathetic to the traditional neighbourhood vernacular will rise along Clarendon Avenue over the next year. The south elevation will contrast this with a modern aesthetic, featuring floor-to-ceiling glass panels overlooking the lush woodland seen below.

From the first announcement of its development, Maison 77 Clarendon has embodied a blend of grandeur and intimacy, offering only 20 expansive units. Nestled in the affluent South Hill area, just to the southwest of St Clair and Avenue Road, the development's stature will be measured by Menkes' commitment to design and quality.

UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below. If you'd like, you can join in on the conversation in the associated Project Forum thread or leave a comment in the space provided on this page.
