Another month of Toronto city-building, transportation, and real estate talk is now behind us, so we are looking back at what were the hottest stories, busiest project Database files, and buzziest Forum discussions from February, 2022.

Our Top Ten News Stories

Our Top Ten this month starts with #11, which despite being published on one of the very last days of the month managed to almost break into the Top Ten list. While the multi-phase Menkes Sugar Wharf development is still a work in progress, a new flagship LCBO store has opened up in the base of the glass-clad 100 Queens Quay East office building.

11. Menkes' Sugar Wharf Welcomes LCBO Flagship While Towers Continue to Rise

This month, the majority of the spots in our Top Ten were taken by stories about project proposals and transit-related news, while #7 was a highly anticipated construction update on The One.

9. 31 Storeys Overlooking Humber Bay Proposed in Mimico

4. Golden Mile Makeover: Another Mixed-Use Proposal for the Crosstown LRT Route

3. Planning the Future of Scarborough Centre is One Tall Task

2. Condo Towers Proposed at Danforth Canadian Tire Site

And our most popular story this month was about who was chosen to develop Quayside in tandem with Waterfront Toronto. The story included a bunch of incredibly green, and artistic renderings which no doubt has made UT readers excited for what is to come to the expansive lakefront development.

Our Top Ten Database Files

At #14 was CIBC SQUARE, which has seen continuous work on the below-grade levels of the second tower at the development, while odds and ends are ongoing on the otherwise completed first phase. Recently the project saw a concrete pour for a fourth crane base, suggesting that work will begin at the eastern end of the five underground parking levels in the near future.

14.  CIBC SQUARE

The rest of our Top Ten Database files feature many of the same projects we see at the top of the list on a monthly basis, although some of them have certainly been shuffled around a bit. This is of course with the exception of #9 – Quayside – and #7 – Alias – which both made the list this month after not having previously been on it before.

Our Top Ten Threads

We start with #19, the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Centre being built by the University of Toronto. The unique, somewhat pyramidal building is well above grade, and has recently seen the installation of white precast cladding panels on its lower levels.

19. Schwartz Reisman at U of T

Like with our Top Ten Database Files, most of the Top Ten Threads this past month have remained on the list from last month's last Topping Off report, with only #9 and #10 being new this month.

7. Gehry Towers

4. Pinnacle One Yonge

3. Sugar Wharf Condominiums

2.  The Well

Keeping its #1 spot is The One, which received an awaited concrete pour last month after it has been delayed by a small form fire and then extreme weather conditions.
