This week's Throwback Thursday takes us all the way back to July, 2013, for a view facing east to the Toronto skyline from the Sir Isaac Brock Bridge, commonly known as the Bathurst Street bridge. At that time over seven and a half years ago, this view showed two recent additions topped out on the skyline, with cranes marking the positions of 300 Front Street West visible just left of centre, and the L Tower to the right.
Returning to the bridge in February, 2021, it's clear that we've had a crazy few years of development, particularly in the Entertainment District, where a skyline gap has been filled in by Charlie Condos, 87 Peter, The Bond, the Bisha Hotel and Residences, PJ Condos, and Theatre Park. (Though it had been completed two years before the 2013 photo, M5V Condominiums is also now visible due to a more southerly vantage point.) To the right of the now-complete L Tower, sibling development Backstage on The Esplanade has joined the mix across the street. What is most obvious, however, is The Well, the megaproject to the left of centre which now obscures the view of Toronto's Financial Core towers, its growing buildings in a range of heights and in varying stages of construction. The tallest of them is The Well's office tower, now mostly glassed in and approaching its final height of 174 metres.
We will return next week with another look at the changing face of Toronto. In the meantime, you can submit your own Throwback Thursday comparisons in our dedicated Forum thread for your chance to be featured in next week's edition.
