This week's Throwback Thursday compares two views of Toronto captured five years apart from the upper deck of the Loblaws parking structure at Jarvis and Queens Quay. Turning the clocks back to September, 2014, a northwest facing view from the west edge of the structure showed a few changes unfolding on the skyline. A crane was in place atop the nearly-complete L Tower, with sibling development Backstage on The Esplanade visible, beginning its rise just to the left. On the far right, the east tower of the Bay Adelaide Centre was also just visible, on its way to a 44-storey height at Yonge and Adelaide.
The same view captured in late October, 2019 shows that all the projects mentioned above have wrapped up construction, and since been joined by several more. At the far left, the first phase of the CIBC SQUARE office complex is now nearing its upper reaches above Bay and Lake Shore. In the foreground, the LCBO Lands are being transformed with the Sugar Wharf mixed-use community. At the right background, 88 Scott Street has added a 58-storey condo tower to the mix.
We will return next week with another look at the changing face of Toronto. In the meantime, you can submit your own Throwback Thursday comparisons in our dedicated Forum thread for your chance to be featured in next week's edition.
