York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Most of the new SkyTrain stations in Vancouver now use wood and they are far more appealing. They give the stations more warmth and they look far less utilitarian.

Nevermind I found the transfer policy, YRT accepts transfers from basically everyone except TTC and Go Transit.

TRANSFERS
Transfers will be accepted on YRT/Viva from the following transfer authorities as long as they have not expired.

  • Durham Region Transit
  • Brampton Transit
  • Mississauga Transit
  • Oakville Transit
  • Burlington Transit
  • Hamilton Transit
  • TTC Contracted Routes in York Region punched zone 3
Do riders taking YRT 7 North from Humber (or Woodbine) (or South into Toronto) have to pay an extra fare when crossing Steeles? I never understood the rationale for running a YRT bus so far deep into Toronto.

No. There are actually various routes that go as far south as Sheppard Ave. Viva Green, Orange, YRT 24, 90.

None of them require an extra fare south of Steeles. The only rule about these buses is if your trip begins in Toronto, it cannot end in Toronto. So as to not compete with the TTC. The only exception is Viva Orange, where a TTC transfer/pass is valid for the portion in Toronto.

I've already posted this in the Downtown Markham thread, but a new Viva Purple curbside station is being prepared just east of the Cineplex and Signature buildings on Enterprise, and is planned for an opening sometime later this year:

saw this yesterday in person. It is temporary, and looks the part. I believe the extension of the rapidway isn't expected until 2020 or so, and the retail centre in the area was severely underserved by the Warden station in the interim. It is badly needed and should see half decent use, especially as density continues to ramp up in the area in the next few years.

When the Rapidway is completed, won't the station still be far away from the commercial area? It between 50m-100m walk from the Rapidway/Birchmount to the shops.

I believe the final location of the central VIVA stop is supposed to be essentially a block north of the temporary station, to align with the existing BRT lanes.

The Cineplex building isn't going to be the only retail presence in the area moving forward, there is a lot more retail and employment planned for the area, and they are locating the BRT stop to serve it all in the long term.

I just noticed something particular about the YRT/Viva System Map. The map includes the Bradford-Bypass (404-400 connector) as well as the 404 extension (to Hwy 48)
